Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Hello all! I just recently picked up a 2009 Honda Civic Si Sedan.
I just got my Hondata FlashPro and am currently running the stock tuned basemap.
I have the following parts coming in soon that I will be installing:
- Hybrid Racing CAI
- Skunk2 Alpha Header
- Full Race Exhaust
Does anyone know which basemap is suitable until I'm able to get a custom tune?
I also found this OTS tune online, but it states to use 93 and I'm in CA so I only get 91... Would it still be able to work?
https://zoshmfg.com/collections/car-stu ... shpro-tune
Thank you in advance!

Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
If you just want something to get you by until a dyno session, you need to look for a calibration that is speed density based to control the HR intake properly. I believe there is a Hondata basemap you can try if you want, then it would need some adjustments to get it dialed for you. Otherwise, if you want some help from me, I can get you onto my stuff and we can dial it that way. Do you have a time frame for getting a dyno tune?IvanJonn wrote: Mon Feb 07, 2022 8:21 pm Hello all! As far as the OTS tune you attached, without seeing the ignition tables it's hard to say if it would work. Odds are I would say no, especially if it's one tune only and they don't provide any revisions. If it's just one calibration file and they don't give you any revisions, I would be careful with it since it is 93 octane focused.
Anyways, let me know if you want some help with it.
Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Oh my I am so sorry, I didn't even see this. I am currently running the AEM V2 CAI basemap which is working fine, but I guess that file is older because it doesn't have some of the features the other basemaps have. I don't have a time frame, I have the exhaust on hand but been waiting weeks for the header. But I do want a decent basemap to run until I get those parts on, then I'll be getting a proper custom tune. Don't know from who yet, though. There's so many options out there. I am between Daniel Butler, DarDan, Steve from e-Tunez, or BoostLee. Not sure if anyone else has heard of these tuners and any experiences with them.EFICU wrote: Mon Feb 07, 2022 11:48 pmIf you just want something to get you by until a dyno session, you need to look for a calibration that is speed density based to control the HR intake properly. But for right now, I just want a better basemap than the AEM V2 until I get my other parts on for a full custom tune.
Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
No problem, yeah you must be using a race calibration in order for it to run right. The race calibration is MAP based where the regular AEM V2 calibration is AFM based. With those race calibrations, you don't get the new features, your oil life monitor doesn't work, and your fuel gauge is off by a little bit. They were necessary a decade or so ago, or for literal race calibrations. For the street now, they have been able to get the regular calibrations to work as needed through their R&D. So yeah, we can get you on a standard calibration, but designed for the HR intake.
So right now you just have the HR intake installed, everything else is stock?
As far as future tuning, Daniel Butler used to be with or is still with Church Automotive if I remember correctly, so he would be a good choice. I'm sure they all are honestly. If you're going to take it to a dyno tuner, I would ask what they do as far as street tuning to get the street driving dialed. I see a lot of dyno tuned cars that are only tuned for the dyno, then on the street they have poor fuel trims and sometimes a lot of knock. There are some things in e-tuning that I would ask questions of potential e-tuners, such as are all cam angles tuned individually. We can discuss more questions through PM or email, just please complete your due diligence on potential tuners so that you get the best product for you and your money.
Anyways, verify your current setup for me and I can get you something to start on if you'd like. Then we can clean it up over a couple revisions while you wait for your parts.

Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Ah I see I see, yeah I'm currently using the MAP based AEM V2 Calibration.
And yes that's correct, pretty much just the FlashPro and the HR CAI Intake. Headers, exhaust, injectors, etc. All stock.
And for sure, I believe he's still with them. He's the second closest to me that can tune me during a dyno session vs eTuning and doing datalogs and revisions. DarDan is here in San Diego, but he's super busy and very hard to get ahold of.
But yes, as I mentioned just FlashPro and HR Intake for now. I'd really appreciate something to start on until those parts come in and I can get a full custom tune.

Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Yeah so that one is a race cal, once we switch you do my stuff it will have all the features you want. What were the features you wanted, no lift shift and stuff or what were you mainly interested in that is not available in the race cal?
I'm not in the business of taking money from tuners, my main focus on here is helping people who really need it. But I can tune it for you once you get all your mods, or at least tune it for you to where you can wait for DarDan to become available. So pick the tuner you want, and I can get it to where you can have fun with it while you wait for your chosen tuner. When I tune them with all the mods, I go in and tune each cam angle and then blend the tune out from there. Which is how I would hope any of your tuners would do it. But either way, I can tune it with all your mods to be safe and have fun with while you wait for DarDan or Butler to free up time for you. Whatever you're comfortable with.
For now I put together my base file for the HR intake only. Take it for a spin when you can, for the datalogs, we need them to be in the twenty minute range with one wide open throttle (WOT) pull in third gear from 2500-8600. If you want the rev limiter lower or anything, just let me know.

Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Noted! I really appreciate that.
As for the features, I think some stuff I saw missing from the Race Cal were the no lift shift, and I think the one with rev hang being disabled, or the throttle plate being shut completely in 1st gear. Something along those lines I forget exactly what it was called. For the no lift shift I know that benefits F/I or turbo setups more for the boost lag. Is it something those with NA setups will still benefit from?
As for the datalogging, for those 20 minutes do I need to drive a certain way? Or just normal city and highway driving with one WOT in 3rd gear?
I'm fine with the rev limiter at 8,600 and VTEC at 4,600 as shown in the file name. For datalog and revisions do you need me to start PM'ing you or just through here works?
Thank you again for all your help!

Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Yeah, the intake and your intended combination of parts are very straightforward. If you haven't been in one of these cars with those parts and a tune, you'll be very surprised once you get yours together and tuned. It's wild what some simple parts and a tune can do. You won't be playing with hellcats, but you will be able to surprise some cars and have a lot of fun driving it.
I see. Yeah in my tunes I turn off the 1st gear throttle dampening and I also turn off the rev hang. Those were the two things I hated the most when I had my 8th gen. If you want them on, or one on and not the other, just let me know. I also have my base pedal map in there. That will tighten up the relationship of the pedal to throttle body opening. That should make it feel a lot more direct, but it won't give you a false speed feel, if that makes sense. I have a sport pedal map we can try at some point too, but give this one a drive when you can.
The no lift shift works great for NA too. It's basically trying to remove the time it takes to pull off the gas and get back on. It's still lowering the throttle angle of the TB on the shift, but your foot can stay planted. It's set at the default setting right now, which is above 6000rpm and above 80% throttle. So keep that in mind, I know you understand it's for WOT only, just saying. One thing to keep in mind, and perhaps you already have noticed it, these cars are very tough to power shift into second gear. So watch that if you do a no lift shift into second gear. To stop that second gear lock out you will need to swap the clutch master and slave. That was another addition to my 8th gen I liked. Once you swap to the EM1 clutch master you can grab second with no issue. Are you familiar with that?
For the datalogs, if you can do city driving with stop and go conditions that's the best. We get a lot more data that way. If you need to do a mix of freeway and city to get the third gear pull that's fine. The third gear pull from 2500-8600 is a little weird at first, so you'll have to try to find a place to safely make that pull. Vtec at 4600 is just a starting point, but should work fine with the intake. Once you get the other parts on it would drop to 4000-4300 or so.
You can post the datalogs here, they can't be sent in PM. It will only take a couple revisions to dial it for this setup. Once you get your other parts on, if you still want my help, that will take 10-12 revisions so we can tune all cam angles. For this though, it will be quick and easy to do in this thread.
I made a second file with no lift shift on for you.

Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Got it! Thanks for all that feedback. And yes I just flashed it and saw they were disabled. That's what I was looking for so thank you!
We can try the sport pedal map later but let's check this one out first. As for the clutch master and slave I'm familiar with the EM1 solution but I think the owner before me swapped out the clutch already, and all I did was adjust it properly. So far I've only ran into issues with grind but to be honest, I'm sure it was just driver mod on my part not timing it correctly. If I time it correctly the 1st to 2nd shifts at high RPM seem to be a non issue. I'll keep you posted on that.
As for the datalogs I'll do my best to get as much city driving. If anything those logs might run a little longer than 20 minutes because I was going to datalog on my errand run which does have a bit of highway but I want to get some stop and go in there as much as I can. This will only be the first revision for now anyways, I'll dedicate another day/night to get a full 20 minutes of stop and go on the 2nd revision I recieve.
Thank you!

Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Sounds good. Whatever you can get the first one is fine. We'll see how it looks.
Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
For sure! I aim to get that to you by around 2PM my time.
Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Sounds good, I'm in the same time zone.
Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Here's the Revision 1.1 Datalog as promised before 2PM!
As mentioned it was a little longer than 20 minutes to get some extra stop and go in there. The 3rd gear WOT pull should be around the 15 minute mark. Hope this is good!

Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
A man of his word, haha.
So we almost nailed it on the first try. I made some part throttle fuel adjustments and a few WOT adjustments. I also made some ignition adjustments for the few knock we had. They only happened in two areas, so that makes it easy. Take this one for a spin when you can, that datalog and driving style was great. Feel free to have some fun with it in this next one, just be sure to get at least one clean WOT pull in third gear like you did.
Also, we can try one with vtec at 4300 if you want, I think it might work okay based on what I saw there. I will be away from my computer for a few hours, so feel free to make a datalog and or drive it wherever you need Tonight. It's literally 99% there already and save to have fun with with, but We'll tighten it up some more, or see if it's good to go in the next datalog.

Re: Basemap Suggestions or File Needed
Oh awesome!!! I'm glad to hear that. Yeah even though I was on the highway I tried to vary it around a bit, throttling in higher gears and doing some passes. Hope that helped out a lot.
As for the VTEC, I feel like you probably know what's better in terms of proper VTEC engagement points and linear power bands. So if you feel we can bring it down I trust your judgement! I won't be driving for the next couple of hours so I'll get that datalogging session in when I'm heading back home. Thanks a bunch again! You've no idea how grateful I am for the quick responses and help.
