New to Flashpro

Post by Joeloe »

Hey all just received my Flashpro and hooked it up to my 2012 civic dx. I did the base map and holy crap I love what it did. But is there anything else I can do? Other tunes? It only came with two because I got the carb edition. I have an intake coming later this week as well as a full borla exhaust to start. I don’t want to mess with stuff on my own and possibly mess something up that I’ll regret later. Any help would be great on what to do. Thanks!

Welcome to the Hondata platform! Unfortunately since you purchased the CARB edition, you won't be able to make any fuel and ignition adjustments which will hinder you from picking up too much performance over the CARB calibration you uploaded. Hondata optimized the CARB calibration to give you the best performance possible while adhering to CARB standards. You will have to do some datalogging once you get your intake on and that would tell you how things are looking. If the AFR is far from target, and/or showing knock, you will need to plan your next move as the CARB FlashPro doesn't allow you to adjust for those things. I would recommend you do some datalogging in the current configuration to see how it looks, make the datalogs on a 20 minute time table and then assess them. Then once you get the intake on, do some datalogging again and see how things look and what changed with the intake.

Which intake did you purchase?

What octane fuel do you run?

Thanks for the advice. I run 92 octane fuel and I’m waiting on my Takeda stage 2 aluminum short ram air intake system.
I’ll definitely have to watch some more videos just to get an idea on what everything does on the Flashpro program for my laptop. I’m just trying not to select the wrong thing and mess something up completely.

With 92 you have more protection from knock than 91, or 89 which is good. Using the CARB FlashPro, you really can't mess anything up because you don't have access to tables that could get you into trouble as a novice. With that said, once you add the intake, you may run into lean conditions you can't address with the CARB FlashPro either, so keep that in mind. That's why I wold recommend doing some datalogging right now before the intake, then datalog after the intake so you can compare what, if any, changes the intake has caused to the CARB tune. If it does show a very lean condition per say, you won't be able to add fuel to address that. Which in that case you may not be able to safely run the intake. Once you datalog some, you can look at the data and decide.

I will datalog it later on and this weekend after the intake is on I’ll datalog it again to see if there are any changes. Question about base maps. The Flashpro came with just one basemap but is there a way to get other ones? Or do I just tune what I can with what I got loaded?

Unfortunately since you purchased the CARB FlashPro, you can only upload the stock equivalent calibration and the CARB tune. CARB stands for California Air Resource Board (CARB), which is an organization that regulates air quality in California (and perhaps other things). So the CARB FlashPro you purchased is only allowed to provide calibrations with a CARB certification number known as EO. In order to meet these standards, Hondata had to provide a calibration that does not impact emissions in a negative way. Therefore, all the parameters that allow for fuel and ignition adjustments have to be disabled per the certification standards. The CARB tune is tuned of course to cover as many applications as possible, Hondata has gone in and provided you with an optimized calibration, but if you make changes to the vehicle that the calibration is not adjusted for, it cannot be adjusted for those new mods. And you can't use any calibration but the stock one and the CARB calibration. The CARB FlashPro is great for California guys who want to be 100% emissions compliant, or any states that would require CARB certification for their vehicles.

You may not have any lean conditions with the new intake, I'm just saying to be mindful that things can change and be sure to datalog so you can be sure everything is okay for you long term.
