I shorted my alternator power wire to my engine accidentally wen I removed the power wire from my alternator

Post by Thenameforcorey »

So I was replacing my thermastat today and I decided to remove the power wire that bolts to the back of the alternator. Wen it slipped out of my hand and grounded out and sparked against the block for a split second then I grabbed it and pulled it off. I put the car back together not thinking anything of it and I turn the car on start it and I've got iat sensor high voltage code and tps high voltage code. Btw this is in a k24 swap ek. Brand new rywire harness ,hybrid ground kit hybrid starter wire and alt power wire. So all I mean all wiring is brand new and grounds are done the way hondata recommends. Ok back to issue, so the car still starts and runs , shitty cause limp mode of course, but I can do all the normal things in kpro like upload new calibrations etc. So I shut the car off test iat sensor and tps and the sensors are good. the wires coming from ecu to those sensors are putting out correct voltage and grounds are good. So I then go back in the car power the ignition on and now the tps high voltage code is gone and now it has codes for ect and iat high voltage yet both sensors are reading correctly on my laptop and I ohm test them to be good. I'm thinking I fried my ecu ,brand new of course , but I'm not sure and I just wanted someone else's input before I contact hondata and send it in. Btw I also checked all my fuses and there good. I thought I shoulda blew the main block fuse in the engine bay fuse box wen I shorted the alt wire to ground but it didn't. Please can someone help me I kno I not the first guy to make this retarded mistake lol sad part is I'm a 15 auto tech and I no better to remove any hot wire before disconnecting battery but me rushing one time and boom it happend. I just find it strange that the kpro seems to be working just like normal all functions working . Yet I've got codes for high voltage at these sensors that I kno are good cause one I tested them and two before I made my idiot mistake the car ran like a champ no check engine lights at all. Ohh and one last thing I cannot clear the dtc in kpro . The second I clear em they come right back .

And I have a question should all the fuses under the hood have 12volt power even with the key off?

You should try the ECU in a known working vehicle. If it has the same issues, then the ECU has been damaged and would need to be replaced.

If the K-Pro is ok, and only the ECU is damaged then only the ECU would need to be replaced.
