Kmanager stuck at "Checking for updates"

Fresh install of Kmanager (latest version) on Windows 7. No way to connect to the internet.
Opening Kmanager the "Checking for updates" screen pops up. Button to cancel is "clickable", but nothing registers. It stays this way for several minutes before closing out on it's own.

I should clarify - the entire program closes out on it's own after several minutes. I'm unable to use the program at all.
Also, the red X does not do anything either.

What does this mean?
The computer doesn't have wifi or the ability to connect to the internet.

It will need internet access in order for KManager to run.
