Is this normal? (Normal Being in the sense that the software is searching for updates but there is no network connection and so it causes it to do what is shown?)

Normal, yes, depending on what the options are set to. BTW you are two versions behind now.

So 3.5.5.0 is not a beta now? It is showing as a beta in the update window, I just a few moments ago downloaded 3.5.4.0 and upon opening it says it is outdated.
