Daughterboard error but only when uploading to k100.

Post by jessek9 »

hi guys,
ive been tuning with hondata for 2-3years now, ive recently ventured into tuning k100 via a kpro-v3
today i encountered a strange issue im hoping someone here can help me with as the search function doesnt seem to find anything like it.

i upload a basemap to a customers k100(via tools) using my car to power the ecu and i get the daughter board error (without cranking the engine so its not due to voltage loss during cranking)
i upload the same tune to the same ecu on the same car but upload to Kpro v3 (Ctrl-U) and no error....
i happen to have a k100 laying around that i had previously uploaded a tune for my car onto(as practice to be sure i could upload to k100 before offering it out to customers) that didnt show the error either until i tried to reupload the same tune to k100 again...now im getting daughterboard errors with that aswell.
im erasing the ECU each time before i upload to k100,i know the car isnt causing the issue because it runs fine on kpro and it ran fine on the k100 before i reuploaded again. can you guys run through the exact procedure for uploading a calibration for use with k100? just so im 100% sure im getting that right?
other than that im stuck as to what the issue could be?
i think the problem comes sometime during the upload process for k100, the tune gets there as it runs fine other than the CEL and 4k rev limit but obviously the CEL must be related to the upload as its fine when uploaded on kpro(Ctrl-U)
KPRO serial is 10759

Close and reopen the software, open the calibration you want to use, go to the online menu, tools and upload for k100, when it finishes, remove the K-Pro and install the k100 and it should run.

thanks ever so much for the speedy reply!
ive not been closing and reopening the software after erasing the ECU, do we think this is causing with the daughterboard error?
it runs fine now but just has the CEL on for daughterboard.
illl give this ago today and get back to you, thanks again!

just tried the exact process you described and im still getting the daughterboard error after 5secs of the ign being on so its not the procedure thats causing the problem...
as i say if i upload to kpro(CTRL-U) its perfect, select upload to K100 and thats when i get the daughterboard error(even with the kpro board still on the ecu)
Any idea where to start looking for this problem? perhaps its an issue with one of the pins on the Kpro board, i did check them over earlier and they looked fine, it works perfect as a kpro but doesnt seem to do so well when uploading to/for k100.

How are you seeing a daughterboard error if the K-Pro is removed and the K100 is in it's place?

it does it with the kpro still on the ecu board just after the upload to k100 has completed. obviously i can then read the error.
swap the k100 board onto the ecu and still the light comes up as it does with the kpro board inplace.

Are you doing this in a vehicle or on a test bench?

in a vehicle, im going to try another vehicle and then borrow the kpro v4 from that to be 100% its not the car or the kpro board.

doing that should atleast give me some direction as to whats going on with it.
i managed a perfect k100 upload literally last week but inhave done a clutch swap on the car since, so there is a good chance its the car but i am surprised the error doesnt appear when uploaded to Kpro(CTRL-U) if the car is indeed the issue

ok so the plot thickens...
been busy trying lots of different things to get this working
new laptop
new software(freshly downloaded onto new laptop)
another cable
another ecu
another kpro(v4)
another car to test it all on
another calibration
and still we are getting the daughterboard error only when uploading to k100.....never when uploading to kpro
it absolutely must be something im doing surely?!?

remove the K-Pro and put in the k100. If it runs normally without errors there is nothing to worry about.

From Help, About, what is the version of software you are using?

What is the serial number of the K-Pro
