new flashpro "ecu not detected please enter vin

Hi there,
New Flashpro owner here, purchased through VIT. I have an '08 SI. I'm working with a desktop and shuttling the unit back to the car. After registering the unit online, I plugged it in to the car , turned the ignition to on but did not start, left it on for about 1 minute, brought it back inside and used flashpro manager to try to lock it to the car.
I am receiving the message, "Warning: No ECU detected, please enter the VIN you wish to lock to:"
I'm willing to type in the VIN but not sure if I should go ahead and do so. Does this have anything to do with the fact that I'm doing this via desktop?
