Run's perfectly in open loop, but very lean in closed.

Post by RonTonSoup »

Having the exact same issue with OP 3 years ago, but issue wast sloved. https://www(dot)hondata(dot)com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16281
Running h22a wiseco pisitons (11.5:1), eagle rods, balance shaft eliminator kit, and stock cams.
Using AEM (30-4110) Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge wired into D12 EGRL
Tuned in open loop but when either Closed loop Narrowband or wideband input is chosen, A/f will lean to the max.

Datalog that i have attached have open/closed loop for 30sec then back to closed/open loop for another 30.
Surprisingly enough during cruse/acceleration and closed loop was applied a/f would not lean, it would stay the same until vehicle is at a full stop at idle then a/f would lean until toggled off.

Any feedback will do, Thanks

Forgot to mention that I did change my injectors to DSM low Impedance/peak & hold Black Top 450cc, however i did not change the dead time of the injectors.

You need to put in the correct dead times for the injectors you are using. The are much better injecotrs to use these days instead of DSM injectors. Are you using a resistor box?

Yes i am running the proper resistor box.
Do i adjust both voltage values and Dead times according to this chart http://www(dot)robietherobot(dot)com/storm/fuelinjectorguide.htm
The thing is, with no tuning (just changing injector size) running on the base map, im able to go closed loop. Its just odd that once the fuel table is adjusted im unable to.

Yea even if the correct injector lag times are inputted, its still leans out on closed loop.

Hi RonTonShop,

I had the same exact problem as you where in open loop, everything runs fine, but once I turn on closed loop, it would lean out so much that I would have to add approximately 80% in overall fuel trim to get it back into the right range.

The solution for me (probably not what you want to hear) was another P28 controller. It appears that not all P28s were made the same (or are in the same condition perhaps) where there were physical differences between P28s (sorry, I didn't document what was actually different).

There is no guarantee that another controller will fix your issue since there is a chance that you might get a controller with the exact same problem, but that's what did it for me. The second go around for me, I bought my P28 from a more reputable company that tested all of their controllers before shipping them.

Good luck!

Huacha thanks a lot for your feedback.
Yeah well it is what it is right?
haha as long as its not my hardware because i quadruple checked everything.
ill try and ask around for people in my area,
if they have a chipped p28 and are successfully able to go closed loop
and re try with my tables.

Ill keep you updated, Thanks again.
