Starting inlet cam at minus 10

I have tried searching for this but havent been able to find answer so apologies if it has been answered somewhere else.
I have checked my build valve clearances and know that the maximum cam timing I can safely run is 40 degrees (20 at cam). I know other builders who remove the inlet camshaft keyway and secure the camshaft back 10 degrees (5 at camshaft) so thst max travel is effectively -10 to 40 degrees. They use stand alone management systems. I know this might make engine starting a little harder.
My question is, if I build my engine this way will kpro throw a camshaft timing fault code and is there a way to override this? If not I can buy a pulley that only goes to 40 degrees but obviously would rather not.
Thanks for your help.
