High timing at idle

I will upload my map and log later today when I get home. I am having a problem with timing at idle. All I changed was a new motor setup (same as motor setup that blew previous). Setup is B18C, 1600cc injectors, GSR distributor that i used before, timing belt is dead on. Used my previous used tune to just be able to idle. Idle is reading 54* of timing for about a while before it drops to 24* and has a rough idle, AF will bounce around from 14-12-17 on the wideband. All wiring checked out, logging is done from Hondata S300, and the timing is the only thing I notice to be odd. Initial timing is 16* Would like to figure this out what could be causing this or something I missed before I take the car to be tuned. Thanks.

have you gone into smanager and set the timing to 16 degrees manually with the pop up window? and adjusted the distributor to prove that your not a tooth off, because it sounds like your off mechanically somewhere, especially if your using a timing light and off 45 degrees, although i don't know how you could see being off 45 degrees since there aren't enough marks in the crank pulley.

Sorry didnt get a chance to get to the car. Here are my logs and cal for my tuned setup, then i tried just a start up tune to see if that was the problem. Almost the same results. I used the set the timing to get 16 and a timing light to show thats where its at so I dont believe thats the case, although I will be checking my timing again.

It is reading the timing directly from the tables exactly as it should. It is still cold and idling high. You should let it fully warm up before trying to set or adjust the timing at the distributor.

Hi spunkster,

Should I sync ignition timing between ecu and distributor before tuning? If I turn to distributor to max advance and tune the car with listening the engine knock what will be? I mean may be I see 28 degrees ignition at wot on smanager but on engine timing is around 30? And it should be ok because I listened the engine knock ?

always set your timing exactly to stock, and use a headset spliced into your knock sensor to detect knock while tuning. if you set your vehicle to 18 degrees and hondata to 16, your already setting yourself up for failure before you've started.
