If the strain gauge has an on/off output, then use it as a full throttle shift input. If not, then you'll a comparator circuit with an adjustable voltage for the activation force. They sell for about $10 as 'LM393 voltage comparators'

from what it looks like as from my research on strain gauges I'm better off using a micro switch and set to where it activates with movement of the shifter, It shouldn't be hard since I use a Gforce shifter.

From what I am able to understand, the rpm drop that the ECU detects with each shift is so reliable that the strain gauge/shifter configuration is just tedious and costly.
Micro switches per gear position can be difficult to adjust/orient and to create a repeatability that one would need to control different events with extreme reliability is well difficult.
Even when you are in a gear there is still much play left/right that errors can be had in gear selection/detection.
Set up the transmission gears in the menu that your car has and enjoy the simple programming available for you need.
