Any advantages of a different ECU other then PNF

Post by hatchtek »

I have a PNF KPro III. And I am going to upgrade my KPro to v4. But before I do I wanted to know if there where any big advantage of getting a different ECU. Like a PND.

Also if there is and I bought like a PND is there anyway I could send my ECU with KPro 3 and the other ECU (Like a PND) could I pay a the upgrade and a little extra to get the upgrade installed in like the PND?

Thank You for the help in advance.

All the ECUs can run the same calibration types (PRB, PNF etc). The only difference between the PNF and anything else is that the PRB ECUs have the reverse lockout output, but even that you can do with the PNF ECU and a relay.
There is no new development in the PNF calibration type so your best bet might be to switch to a PRB type calibration, which you can do using the PNF ECU. If you are going to re-tune anyhow then this is what I would do.

Sorry to bump this.

Just curious about where the relay mentioned above comes in.

Looking through the HELMS manual for the EP3 Si the pins and connections relevant to the lockout solenoid are shown as present despite the lack of the solenoid itself.

Pin B7 looks to be connected to the board inside the ECU, is it not possible to simply add wiring from the solenoid to the B7 pin and splice into the black/yellow wire between the junction box and C101 connector to make the lockout solenoid function?

No, the circuitry does not exist on the circuit board to operate the reverse lockout.

Ah! Appreciate the swift response, thanks.

Looks like a PRB will be needed for combined 6 speed and factory wideband o2 sensor compatibility.
