Kpro V4 Driver Issues

Post by Roboyt0 »

I just purchased a K-Pro upgrade from a flash for my 2002 Civic Si. I just received the K-Pro V4 this past Thursday 12/11/14. I can not get drivers to install or recognize the K-Pro as 'Online'.

The car runs and drives fine. My immobilizer light is flashing. The green light in the ECU is definitely on.

It is Kpro V4 #40022

Here is everything I have done to try to get it to work:

Installed Kmanager Beta V4.0.3 and hooked the ECU up to my laptop with the ECU out of the vehicle. The ECU is recognized in Device Manager as KPro with a yellow ! mark. Any/All attempts to install the drivers have failed. Letting Windows search for drivers comes up with nothing. Manually choosing the directory got me nowhere; C:\Program Files (x86)\Kmanager. Downloading the drivers and installing them did nothing as well. This laptop is a convertible tablet/laptop, running Win 8.1 64-bit, and only has USB 3.0 ports. I thought that Win 8.1 may be a problem since it isn't listed specifically on your site as compatible. I also thought that maybe the USB 3.0 ports could be affecting things.

I then installed the ECU in the vehicle thinking that may help; It did not. The negative battery cable was disconnected when the ECU was installed and reconnected afterwards; as suggested by Honda service procedures.

I moved the engine harness ground from intake mani to cylinder head as suggested. Kpro is still recognized in Device Manager but the drivers still will not install and I can't get the ECU 'Online'.

Now I thought there may have been an issue with my laptop. I borrowed a friends laptop that was also running Win 8.1 64-bit, but it only has USB 2.0 ports. Same story here unfortunately. Kpro recognized in Device Manager but drivers will not install properly and the ECU can't be recognized as Online.

At this point I thought I would start from scratch with my laptop. I uninstalled all the software and drivers and used registry/driver cleaning software to make sure all traces were gone. I disconnected the ECU and started over. Once again the same story. I reconnected the ECU, and got nowhere once more.

Next step was using my wife's laptop which is running Windows 7 64-bit and has a USB 2.0 port. Same thing again regardless of which USB port was used. Kpro is recognized in device manager, but drivers will not install and the ECU can't be recognized as online. I also tried installing the standalone drivers to a different directory, the desktop, and it still didn't work.

I have tried, as mentioned, with the ECU connected and disconnected and with the ignition in every position; except the car running.

Initially I kept seeing the same (2) error messages pop up consecutively with all (3) of the laptops. The 1st error was "Error setting up inf file (Error:A)" it would then follow with "Error Updating USB Driver (Error:)". This happened with all 3 of the laptops I have mentioned.

After a couple uninstall/reinstall of Kmanager/drivers while using my wife's Windows 7 laptop, I now only see the 2nd error: "Error updating USB driver (Error:)"

At this point I contacted a friend who has K-Pro V3 in his RSX. His laptop is already setup and works fine with his K-Pro; Win7 64-bit, Kmanager software says 'Driver Installed'. We updated his Kmanager to the newest Beta V4.0.3 so it would be compatible with my V4. Even though the drivers are marked as installed on his laptop, my Kpro still shows up in Device Manager with the yellow ! mark. The ECU still would not come online. We then tried updating the drivers automatically, with the download, and manually by choosing the directory...nothing. I still saw "Error Updating USB Driver (Error:)" even though he already has the drivers installed.

My last ditch effort was substituting a different USB cable. I tried 2 other cables with no luck.

I am fairly certain I have eliminated all possibilities using 4 different laptops to get the same result. At this point I am under the assumption that the K-Pro is faulty.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Go to the Windows device manager and manually install the drivers. Make sure you point it to the Drivers folder inside the KManager folder.

I don't have FlashPro, I have Kpro V4 in a 2002 Civic Si.

I stated more than once that I tried to manually install the drivers, by specifying the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Kmanager, on four different laptops and it isn't working.

Please read my post a little more thoroughly. I have tried any suggestion in the Kpro help/tutorial with no success.

I'm sorry I typed FlashPro instead of Kmanager.

You must point it to the Drivers folder inside the Kmanager folder or it will not work.

Sorry folks, I did not include the driver for the new KPro4 in the distribution. It shares the driver with the s300v3, so worked for some people but not others.

Update either from the Help Menu or from here http://www.hondata.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=18179
