cannot connect via app

brand new s300 just got it in friday. it finds s300 but app will not connect. galaxy s3 running kernel 3.4.0 what do i do?
What is the exact error message?
Did you pair to the s300 first (you don't need to, but sometimes it helps).
Also try changing to passcode to 0000 or 1234 as some phones don't connect to any device with a different pin.
