From Help, About, what version of software are you using? When was the last time you rebooted your laptop?

i changed the cable, tried another laptop, using the normal kpro software version 3.3 if not mistaken, still not working. latest error message states 'device that connected to has malfunctioned' displayed this message on both laptops.

What shows up in the Windows Device manager when you plug in the USB cable?

after trying out everything, finally decided to remove ecu and open it, upon closer inspection i noticed on the kpro board IC number FB4 is toasted! This is totally unacceptable, kpro is only like 3weeks old, from new i had it placed it the dc5 itr's oem ecu location and dint touch it once, did some logging and that was it. What you suggest?

This is from excessive ground current passing down the ECU cable. Check that you have all the standard grounds in the engine (transmission & engine mount). Remove the engine bay grounds and clean down to bare metal under the contact points. Check the main harness ground (normally on the intake manifold) is good, remove and clean if necessary. If you're using an intake gasket then we recommend moving the harness ground to the valve cover. Don't use inverters to power the laptop in the vehicle as these can cause a ground loop.
