S300 overheating?

Post by 89 H22A-BA4 »

Hello all, im new to Hondata as i just bought a somewhat built car and have begun to drive it a bit. I have a 1989 Honda Prelude running a H22A tuned on a S300. Ive owned this car for a week and yesterday it had its first round of acting up. I live in the Sacramento, CA area and it was rather hot out yesterday when my problem happened.

I drove my car over an hour to a friends. visited with him for almost 2 hours, then got back into the car and began driving home. Almost made it home when I got off the freeway, the car was acting up very badly. Not wanting to idle, sputtering, barely running at stoplights. I had to shut her off and began checking all connections under the hood and at the ecu. found nothing wrong, so I tried it again, it seemed to run even worse, couldnt rev up, couldnt drive for shit. Parked it again, put my hand on the ecu, and wow, it was blistering hot!

I turned her off and waited til dark, about 3 hours, and went out to fire it up. What do you know, when the ecu isnt 200 degrees, the car runs perfect, just like every other time id driven her.

So, my question is this; Do these modded ecu's get too hot and cause the tune to act erased? because this thing was so bad to drive with the hot ecu, it was like a switch had been turned to off from the ecu and the poor motor couldnt run at all.

Thanks in advance for any and all info!
