I'm just starting to learn all the K-Pro basics and the basics of tuning in general, but I have some questions about the K-Pro:
1) Since we run in closed loop up to column 8, what is the purpose of tuning columns 1-7? Won't the ECU be trimming/adding fuel on it's own at those map pressures, reading off the 02 sensor instead of looking at a predetermined map?
2) What is the recommended tuning procedure for the A3? I know the recommendations for the A2 (set low cam at high rpm, tune; set high cam at low rpm, tune...etc.) but since the A3 is on the high cam from 2200 rpm up, how should one go about tuning the low cam? I wouldn't think it a very good idea to set the low cam up to 6500 rpm and run the engine up to the redline on 12 valves.
K20A3 tuning
1) The closed loop to open loop transition is determined by engine load and/or throttle position. Column 7 may be a general guide.
2) For the K20A3 the VTEC is always fairly close to stock, so it you want to do dyno runs for the low speed cam I'd just go from 1500 to 3000 rpm. If VTEC is set very high at some point the centre lobe will float on the lost motion assembly and hit the spring retainers. On a B series this occurs at about 7500 rpm. On a K series it is around the same or higher rpm since the lost motion spring is stiffer.
