Car dies at 5000rpm and won't start back up...?

Post by BoostedLS98 »

Ok so I've got an ls-non vtec fully built turbo, still using a distributor from the auto parts store with upgraded coil, cap with brass tip fittings, and Packard 8mm wires.

Ok the first issue was the rotor kept coming loose. The screw became lose from I guess vibrations. Any been replaced, So last he other night I started the car up and it was fine. Let it warm up, got in and drove away. It was low on gas but I didn't realize it was about to die. I come to the light and it dies. The gas gauge goes up to a qtr tank but I know there wasn't. Had my brother bring me gas made it half way down the road to the Gas station. Rolled in and filled it up. Didn't start again. Tried priming the engine. Wouldn't start. Eventually got it started and drove her home. Got in it last night the day after the first issue and it wouldn't start. Checked the distributor and sure enough the screw came loose again. Changed it and the lock washer once again. Got it running. Let it run for a while and then went to take a test drive. Didn't hit boost or high Rpms for awhile. Then I had some open road and hit boost. Felt the car hesitate and then she stalled. Pulled off the side and investigated. The caps lower screw area cracked and I guess was causing contact issues for the plugs. So I had my replacement cap brought to me. As I was replacing it one of the wires tips came loose and had to recrimp the wire. Finished all that and tried to crank it over and nothing. Called a tow truck and had her brought home. So this Morning I went out and changed the wires back to the stock 7mm wires that came with the replacement cap that I installed last night. Car cranked over first try. Let her run and warm up. Checked my s300v2 with my laptop for any issues or codes and nothing. So I drove it around my neighborhood and got to a straight and hit 5000rpms and she died. Won't start back up. What is going on? Anyone? I ask with an open mind... Thank you!

Ok so I replaced the plugs with the hondata reccomended ones from NGK with the resistors and a heat rating of 8. Replaced the distributor cap and rotor button. The starter and now she works.

We have seen this when there are errors in the signals from the distributor. The electronics in the ECU eventually stops reading from the distributor, and the power has to be cycled before the engine will run again.
