Should this be selected when using CPR?

The car may not start if you have this check. I had this happened on my buddy's car. Unchecked it and start right up.

Did your friend have cpr ??

I just re-tested this in my car that runs the CPR and disabling ALt-C error has no effect on the CPR functionality.
