lowest v-tec rpm on N/A engine

Post by srcracing »

What is the lowest RPM you can get the v-tec to work good on a B18C1 N/A engine. I've tuned mine for 4500 rpms but I get a drop in the power graph on the dyno. You don't really feel it, but it looses about 30HP right after v-tec comes on. Any ideas?

Your optimal VTEC cross over point depends most on your cams, what cams are you using? If your using the stock B18C1 cams then a near stock (about 4800-5200) crossover point is going to be the best range. Why do you want to have it as low as possible?

The engine is a B18C1 with skunk2 cams. The driver wants the v-tec lower so that he can make more power lower, for drifting... The intake butterflys are out also...

I have Skunk 2 Stage 2 cams now with my B20VTEC and had them with my B16A in both cases I had my crossover at 5800. The non VTEC cam is making more power until then.
Since you have the dyno graph with the VTEC at 4500 the best way to determine the best crossover point would be to set the VTEC high like 6500 or 7000 then make another dyno graph. Compare the two graphs and find the RPM point that the 4500 crossover makes more power then the 7000. This point is where your crossover should be.

For some reason my tuner was unable to set vtec lower than 6K using Sk2 S1 cams? He tends to think it's a distributor problem, bad miss fire...we'll see. Hope you have better luck!

lowest vtec

Well, I have my customer's vtec at 4,400. I first shut it off (8000) and tuned the non vtec map, then turned it back on (4,400) and tuned the vtec or high fuel map, he says the car pulls harder than ever, and he has had every chip and computer in the world on it before... Other tunes did some of the stuff your (seks727) dyno sheetsare showing. Keep trying...

What base map did you start off with? I believe my tuner started off with the 99-00 ctr program.
