Tune someone else's s300 with my laptop

I do a good bit of tuning on a very wide range of things. I have no desire to be a hondata dealer, but occasionally get asked to tune with it. Last time I tried I couldn't get my laptop working with his s300 and had to use the customers laptop. Is there any reason I can't tune them with my own laptop or was there some step I was missing when I set it all up?
