Stalling only in closed loop?

Post by CaptivaBlueTeg »

2003 RSX type S
Greddy Turbo Kit
Greddy Intercooler
3" exhaust and exhaust
RC 750cc
Kpro

New Parts (replaced trying to figure this problem out)
AEM Dry Flow Air Filter
Denso primary o2
New vacuum lines
Turbo Manifold (incase the old cast had cracked)
IAT Sensor

Cleaned the IACV already

Josh over at kpro tuners has been helping me sort this out. But the car was professionally tuned on a dyno a few years ago. But as with age I imaging stuff has chaged and with the help of Josh I have been tuning my fuel maps trying to figure out why this car has been stalling. It's not like I'm sitting at a light and it stalls, no I push the clutch in and the car dies. Not everytime, but a good chunk. Enough for me not to feel safe driving it since I lose power steering and power brakes.

A few things I've noticed, in closed loop with the IAT unplugged I never had a problem stalling (reasoning behind replacing it with a new oem).

Second, I can drive in open loop all day long and not have an issue stalling. It drops right to the idle, never below. (assuming that means the iacv is still good?) Third, it happens only when it's been driven for more than 20min, after highway drives it's worse.

Things that have already been done, in order
-Adjusted idle duty valve, many times haha
-Added more fuel at idle
-Noticed the cam angle would change before the stalling, causing ignition to jump. So cams angle set to 0
-Adjusted IAT compensation, always worse at temps above 120, it would lean out at idle. No longer is the leaning the case

I added my latest datalog, I don't get many chances to take it out. I only added my closed loop operation. Check 20:40 is one of the stalls, and the crappy idle after that. Any other ideas??

Possibly your o2 sensor is giving high fuel trims. Need a datalog to diagnose.

Sorry it took so long, work keeps sending me out. Finally some downtime. I took two datalogs today, one in closed and one in open. I only got it to stall once in closed, but still a pain.

If it's the o2 sensor is it something that's adjusted in Kpro, I replaced my o2 sensor right away when the problem started with a new oem denso. I also replaced all 4 ignition coils with oem's

Stalling occured 1:30ish

The TPS appears to be on the way out, but I'm not sure that is the cause.

Pull the idle valve apart and clean it. Also check you fuel pressure regulator has not got any tears in the diaphragm.

Did you ever figure this out? Im having the same problem with my b16 in my del sol using the s300. I havent tried running in closed loop yet, and this coming monday im going in for a retune. But it interested me that you also have the RC 750cc injectors. Curious as to if it may be something to do with these injectors, as it seems that the only people having these stalling issues(that I can find of course) have them.

Like you, mine starts stalling shifting out of gear into neutral. After sitting it seems fine but, as you said, between 10-20 min of driving it starts to happen quite frequently. My datalog said I was running rich so that is why I'm going in for a retune.(also due for a tune now that my rebuilt engine is broken in). I too have cleaned the IACV and adjusted the screw many times. I feel your frustrations with this! I find myself shifting out of gear way early coming to a stop, just incase I gotta shift into 4th and pop the clutch quickly and right back to neutral. (This is the easiest solution I have found so far. The idle fluctuations dont seem to happen when I do this, as they would if I would just use the ignition to start it again, or even a lower gear.)

If you found out what was wrong, would love to hear the solution. If not then I'll keep you posted on my findings when I get my tune.

Hey just checking back. I got my car re tuned (horribly, and completely unsatisfactory but tuned) and the stalling on my end has gone away. I guess my tune was just so tuned down for emmissions that it didnt have enough fuel to catch idle as the rpms dropped quickly. Thats my best guess. Sorry i cant be much help
