USB drivers WONT work even manually...
Bought the p28/s300 deal from HAmotorsports, which does all the socketing and testing to make sure the ecu is good(so that eliminates any faulty ecu possibilities)
I first installed the Smanager, then installed the ecu, plugged in the usb to the ecu/laptop, then turned the key to 'On' which was suppose to install the USB drivers according to the directions. It didnt, so i looked up the manual way to do it. The manual way isnt working either. I go through "device manager" and It goes to the last process to install the drivers but at the end it says cannot install drivers, and i believe error 28 or 29? What also confuses me at the corner of the Smanager it says 'drivers installed' as if they are installed but it wont respond with the ECU, and says 'Offline'. I tried uninstalling the Smanager and reinstalling but it still wont let me manually install the usb drivers. Not sure whats going on and was hoping for some help on here.
Non of this should matter but im using an Acer Aspire One laptop(windows XP), no cd drive so i use an external cd drive to install the Smanager.
Thanks in advance for any help guys-Derek

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i just uninstalled the cd smanager and did the smanager download off the hondata site. it Finally it said 'Hondata ECU Found'(first time it did that) when i connected the ecu to the laptop and went thru the process to install the usb drivers but at the end of trying to install the drivers it said 'Error occured during installation of the device' and 'Driver is not intended for this platform' So that eliminates it being an USB port problem being it found the Hondata ecu when i plugged them together, plus i have 3 ports on this laptop, i tried all 3 just to help eliminate that possibly being a problem. when the error message said 'Driver is not intended for this platform is that meaning for the Smanager or my laptop?

It is a problem with Windows. There is a chance it that the windows/system32/atapi.sys file has been hijacked by malware using a rootkit. In this case, install Security Essentials and do a complete scan. Otherwise it is something gone wrong with the windows drivers cache. The solution is to delete some of the windows cached driver files, but that is beyond the scope of what we can do here.

Re: USB drivers WONT work even manually...
Ran security essentials and no malware at all and also tried it on a windows 7 laptop to eliminate it being just my laptop. Heres a quick update of the current status of it. I can now get the Laptop to see and pop up 'Hondata ECU' everytime i re-install Smanager and turn the key to 'on' which it goes on to automatically install the drivers. every single time it tells me 'Cannot install drivers' and a pop up comes up saying ''Hardware/drivers not installed correctly and may not work'' even though in the bottom corner of Smanager it says 'Drivers installed' but at the same time if I go into device manager the Hondata logo has a yellow ''!'' over it showing the drivers arent installed. -EXTREMEMLY frustrating, paying $700 and having it professionally installed and for something that has one of the best reviews for honda ecu tuning, and it not being a simple plug and play. I didnt buy this used for the exact reason I didnt want any hassles or faulty equipment. Should i be calling Hondata for support for this issue?Hondata wrote:It is a problem with Windows. Re: USB drivers WONT work even manually...
You tried it on another laptop and got exactly the same message 'Driver is not intended for this platform'?
Follow the manual USB installation instructions exactly. 90% of the problems are people skipping a step of not putting in the correct driver directory. eg C:\Program Files\SManager\ rather than C:\Program Files\SManager\Drivers

My code device manager error was 28 which is 'drivers not installed'(even tho smanager says drivers installed??) : / His windows 7 laptop i believe had error 10 which is 'This device cannot start.'(i could be wrong with remembering his error code but i'll prob give it another shot on his laptop along with another persons if i can.
Im definately using C:\Program Files\SManager\Drivers to install the drivers, i double check that each time i reinstall.
My XP is 32bit but i dont think thats the issue.
Re: USB drivers WONT work even manually...
If you can, find someone with working SManager software and then substitute your s300. That will eliminate other variables.

Re: USB drivers WONT work even manually...
this has been happening a lot since the upgrade to the version for V2. I have made a post about this also and manually installing the drivers didnt fix the computers my customers where trying to use.
My laptop has worked flawless on drivers on Smanager and all other tuning software i have had on this computer and my last computer for over 4 years now. My win7 acer is still working with v1 and v2 s300's. my com ports and drivers are great yet when i automatically or manually download them and install on others laptops they dont seem to find the driver. Also i have tried using both drivers listed under the drivers tab and still they have yet to be successful to connect. I have about 3 people right now still unable to do this.

Welp the s300 does work. Tried a 3rd laptop and the usb drivers finally worked(first try too). Its a relief knowing its not something wrong with the ECU at least. So i guess i'll see if its possible to get it to work on my personal laptop.

Re: USB drivers WONT work even manually...
For a $700 ecu i had much higher expectations for this. Im still happy with it(with the tuning capabilities), a little let down with how picky the usb drivers are for the cost of this. hopefully its something hondata fixes.FreshDA9 wrote:this has been happening a lot since the upgrade to the version for V2. Re: USB drivers WONT work even manually...
I wouldnt count it out. just since the v2 it seems the driver issues are coming out of nowhere. there is some kind of bug but the guys will figure it out.
Its a great system and when you start using it you will love it. sorry you had some hassle but sometimes its the luck of the draw.

The drivers have not changed since they were signed by Microsoft in October 2008
Download the latest version of software from http://www.hondata.com/downloads.html. Follow the instructions for manual driver installation. Most people don't specify the correct directory or abort the installation early on. If it does not work, tell us exactly what the first error message you see is.

Re: USB drivers WONT work even manually...
I have the latest version (v2), which is on the cd that came with it, i even checked for updates as soon as the smanager was installed, and even also downloaded the latest off the site when it wasnt working on the 2 previous laptops. Every laptop i used i know for sure i was using the correct directory for the drivers. My computer kept throwing error 28 and also said drivers not intended for this platform, and my friends laptop was error 10Hondata wrote:The drivers have not changed since they were signed by Microsoft in October 2008
