did you ever figure out what was wrong with it..? cause im having the exact problem as you. when it runs fine the check engine light stays off...but sometimes the check engine light is on and the rpm is stuck at 2k ...it happens pretty randomly...

This sounds like a wiring problem somewhere in the car.

It's possible that the connection at CN2, the pins on the ecm, doesn't make contact with the supplied connector/cable (S200 users). Same goes for the Hondata blue box side as well...
Open up your ecm (car ecu), turn the car key to the on position just enough to prime the fuel pump, look at your Hondata control box the little red led should now be on, if so wiggle the wiring at one end first CN2/Hondata Box, does the led go out? If so you have an intermittent bad connection at either end...

that wire that goes from the ecu to the blue box is crap. i have bought 2 in less than a year and am having problems with that wire again. it is mostly on the connector on the blue box that is always having problems. i'm going to end up soldering it to the blue box and this isn't the first one i've had to do like this either.
i ended up removing the ecu from the mounts on the kick panel and left it laying on the floor and that seemed to work. but it is probably just the cable. it's fucking crap.
