Is it possible to have a soft style rev limiter that some other cars computer's employ? i.e. a throttle limiter or ignition cut or spark cut instead of a fuel cut. My 350Z would just gently touch the rev limiter while holding the accelerator pedal to the floor, kinda nice.
I have a boosted civic and people have told me that smacking off of the limiter is bad for me. I try not to but in the lower gears things happen fast!
I don't see a lean condition in my logs but I'm not sure if that's because the sensors arent sampling the data that fast?
Soft Rev limiter?
Re: Soft Rev limiter?
The engine will not run lean on the limiter, but it is not good to hold the engine there for any length of time.
Change you ignition table index to add a columns 100-200 rpm before the rev limiter, and then retard the ignition fully at the rev limiter. This will soften the rev limiter a lot.
eg. If your rev limiter is 8500 rpm, make a column at 8350 rpm with normal ignition timing, then at 8500 rpm set the timing to -10 degrees.

Re: Soft Rev limiter?
That's a good idea.
That got me thinking. I thought I could modify the target throttle table so at 100% throttle pos. and at 8500rpm I could drop down the throttle pos at that spot but I can't change the rpm indexes.
It only goes to 8000rpm
Can you make it so you can edit the rpm column? I was thinking at 8500 and at 100% throttle pos. make the square like 0 or 10 and thant might give me a soft rev limiter also.
WOuld that work?

Re: Soft Rev limiter?
The throttle plate may not be quick enough to soften the initial bounce off the rev limiter, but it seems like it would be quick enough to soften the bounces after that. For example, if you're in 2nd gear at an autocross, and don't have enough straight left to justify an up-shift to 3rd, then it might be nice to have the throttle plate close a bit.
