Hondata

Hi. I hope this is the right forum to ask for help. I'm having trouble connecting an AIM MXL Pista to a K-pro ECU.

I believe I did everything right, but the AIM is not powering up. I've followed these instructions as closely as possible (http://www.mychron4.com/download/ecu/ra ... 01_eng.pdf) and I've read a few threads here where some people were having problems too.

What I've done so far:

Wired all three wires (ground, 12V, RS232) of the AIM to the hondata board and then to pin 24 of E connector of the ECU (ECU labeled with "PRD" (JDM EP3?)).

Running Windows XP I changed KManager.ini to include "dataloggingoutput=1" below "Settings" The file was not located where the instructions said but at C:\Documents and Settings\Personal\Local Settings\Application Data\Hondata\KManager.

Verified KManager.ini file still had "datalogginouput=1" after rebooting the computer.

Opened K-series ECU Editor and changed Multiplexer to "dataloggeroutput 9,600 bps" and then uploaded the kal to the ECU.

Started the car up but the AIM does not power up. I powered up the AIM by connecting to a separate 12V source and it turns right on so I don't think it's a problem with the AIM. While it was on, I changed the settings to get the signals from a hondata kpro ecu.

Any ideas what I can do? Thanks in advance!

You don't need to change the ini file now - the Aim instructions need to be updated.

Does the Aim need the ECU connection to power up? I would have thought that it powers on by itself, then looks for the ECU interface board.

Yes, I have updated the AIM to read signals from the ECU. I updated the AIM while it was connected to a separate 12v source.

Even while the AIM was connected to the separate 12V and the engine was running, the AIM was not reading/getting signals from the ECU.

BTW, if it matters, the ECU is 37820-PRD-003, kmanager 1.5.1.0

According to AIM, the hondata board is supposed to be connected to three wires from the AIM (12v, ground, rs232):

How have you wired up the Aim and Hondata interface? The Aim is supplied power, separate from the ECU or Hondata interface board. It then supplies the Hondata interface board with power as per the diagram you posted.

Oh sorry, that was confusing. Hopefully this is better. I've tried two situations:

Situation 1:

The AIM is connected to the ECU as shown in the Figure posted above. When I turn on the car, the AIM does not turn on at all (i.e. dead screen, no lights, nothing, nada, dead). So I assume the AIM is not getting 12V nor any sensor signals.

Situation 2:

The AIM has its 12V wire and ground wire connected to a separate 12v source (i.e. both the 12v and ground are connected to a 12V battery (i.e. the 12v and ground are not connected to the hondata board/ECU) AND the AIM's RS232 wire is connected to the ECU via the hondata board

The AIM turns on once it gets power as wired as Situation 2, which leads me to believe the AIM is functioning properly. While the AIM had power, I configured AIM to read sensor signals (rpm, oil temp, ect) from the hondata ECU. I turned the engine on but the AIM display doesn't change (i.e. tach, oil temp, water temp are still at "zero") which leads me to believe the ECU is not sending out any signals.



The only thing I can think of that I may have screwed up is that I have the RS232 in the wrong pin or wrong connector. Here is a pic of where the rs232 is pinned into the ECU:

OK, I was misunderstanding the wiring I did in situation 1. All this time, I thought the AIM was supposed to be getting 12v from the ECU itself, so apparantly neither the AIM nor hondataboard was connected to 12V.

So situation 2 is wired the way it's instructed by the manual. Both the AIM and the hondataboard are grounded and getting 12V.

Found the issue!!! It was me!!!!! LOL!

There are two RS232 wires on the AIM and I assumed there was only one. One is an RS232TX and the other is an RS232RX and I had the wrong one connected. Reading is fundamental.
