Okay guys I am getting a blue screen when I plug in my kpro cable to my laptop. I read about the driver fix and downloaded that and the driver cleaner. I try following the directions but when I try to run the cleaner app it has an error. Someone please tell me what I am doing wrong. I have been working on this for the last 3 hours and have had like 12 blue screens trying to fix it.

I got the cleaner to work by running it in vista compatibility mode and clicking "run as admin" but now that I am on to step 5 I find myself stuck again. It says to plug in the cable and when prompted for the drivers get them from RomEditor4USBfix file.. well i am never prompt to install any drivers.. windows just attempts to and then says failed. I tried to go to device manager and click update driver and install them from the location it says "windows cannot find the driver software for your device"

You should not be using this at all as you do not have Romeditor4 cable. This is not for use with a K-Pro.

Oh alright, I was under the impression since I searched "kpro blue screen" and found the topic on here where he was having the same issue and it had the link to that particular fix, that was what needed to be done. Well can you point me in the correct direction as to what is going on? When i first install the drivers that let me communicate with kpro it works find but as soon as I unplug the usb cord and plug it back in, BAM.. blue screen. I don't get it.

You have said it works properly on a different laptop so the problem is either in your operating system or in you laptop hardware (memory, hdd...etc).

Yes, I was just hoping maybe I would encounter someone else who had my same issue because I have a feeling if I contact my laptop's manufacturer they are probably going to give me the run around and tell me to contact Hondata (even though it is obviously not an issue on Hondata's end), and if I contact Microsoft I will end up spending half an hour on hold to talk to someone that I can't understand because his/her accent is too strong. Unfortunately though it seems I am the only one with this issue because I have searched everywhere. I am hoping it is a software issue and not a hardware incompatibility. I am going to attempt to dual-boot my laptop and run WinXP on the second partition and see if the problem persists while using XP.

Try using the driver clean utility from the chipset manufacturer.

http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utiliti ... r_v1.4.zip

With the KPro unplugged, run the utility and use the 'Add' button to add vendor ID 0403 product ID 6001, then vendor ID 0403 product ID F5F8. To remove the drivers use 'Remove Devices'.

Plug in the KPro, and follow the USB driver installation instructions here http://www.hondata.com/help/kmanager/ma ... lation.htm

Well I called Asus to troubleshoot with them a little since it is obviously an issue with this particular laptop. They had me update some drivers and the BIOS which did not work so they suggested I do a full system recovery to put it back to factory status. I completed that and went to use Kpro. Plugged it up, installed the drivers, and it worked great the first time just as it did before... THEN, once again as before after unplugging Kpro and coming back to use it later, as soon as I plugged it in I got that horrid blue screen.

I downloaded what you suggested and when I did it, it failed and said "the device could not be found in the system".

I am assuming this issue is either bad hardware in my laptop or unfortunately just incompatible hardware in the laptop which stinks because using Kpro on it was one of the main reasons I purchased it.

Asus told me that if it continued to have the issue after I did the full system recovery that it was a hardware issue and for me to contact them again and schedule to send it in to have it "serviced". I am just apprehensive to even bother with it because I personally think that it is probably just incompatible hardware rather than the hardware being defective. Being as I use this laptop for college as well I really don't know if I can let it go for three weeks. If it wasn't beyond the date for me to just return it to Best Buy and choose a different one that is exactly what I would do.
