Using reverse with no VSS?

I have a brand new PRB K-pro that is running in an Ariel Atom.

I have a K20z3 tranny with the high frequency VSS. I also have an external VSS (magnet on the half shaft) that drives the speedo on the dash, so I have little need for the VSS.

I have disabled VSS in KManager, so it defaults to 49 MPH. Obviously this means that my reverse lockout is activated.

What options do I have to use my reverse? Buy a converter from Dakota Digital?

How different are the pulses per mile of the 02-04 sensor and the 06+ sensor? Given that I don't need the Honda signal to determine my speed, if I just hook up my harness plug to the 06+ VSS, will I get a clean enough signal to drive the reverse lockout and the VTEC correctly? Or are the signals far enough apart that I need the converter?

Thanks,
Jason

You would need some kind of converter. The best thing to do would be to use an 02-04 case and use a proper VSS.

I just repinned the harness for the sensor and it works for what I need.

Says I'm doing 156 MPH at about 10 MPH, but that's fine for what I need - reverse to work, VTEC to engage (at "100MPH"), and possibly launch control down the road (below "75 mph").

Am I missing anything that is a problem with the ECU thinking it's doing ~10x the real speed?

It won't be able to calculate what gear you're in properly, so things like boost by gear and gear compensation in fuel tables won't work - but you may be able to get the gear ratios set in Kpro to where this will function. Depends how much control we (as the tuner) have over the gear ratios, and how many bits are used to store the VSS reading
