16b2 miss-fire

Hi, I am in the UK and have a problem with my Civic, fitted with a 16b2 engine. At around 1750 rpm I suffer a miss-fire. I am told by Honda that this is a characteristic of the car, they all do it and it's ok. It's NOT!
The rolling road I tried (superchips) ran it and said it was shocking but chiping it would solve it. They then told me it is impossible to chip my particular ecu!
Please help!!! I do not want to turn this car into a drag racer, just make it as driveable as my 1966 Ford!!!!
Is there any form of 'plug&play' device or alternative ecu i can use? I am on the wrong side of the pond for Hondata service but would welcome advice from you or anyone. I do not even know where the ecu is in my car! All sensors and ancilliaries check out ok, it seems to be a mapping problem.
All I know is that I shall have to part with what is in every other respect a great car (1.6i es civic aerodeck) if I can't solve it.

i can tell you one thing the us models dont have that problem. this is something hondata would probably know more about than anyone. but there are ecus that could run your car but you would need a conversion harness to obd1 then u could use a del sol vtec dohc or 93 integra gsr . or if you could get a us ecu from a civic si it should plug right in.

This maybe a stupid question........

I have had someone replaced distributor, sensors, ecu, etc etc...... scary list of parts.......

All because he had a ignition miss......... and it was a defective ignition wire.

Is your ignition system in good shape ?
your plugs, wires, cap ,rotor are any of them orginal equipment ?

Man if i could understand what you actually have i could probably help u. lemme get this right u have a 1998 civic ex ? with a B16 motor DOHC Vtec motor fitted in it ? Which computer running it ?
