Can't seem to get 1.4.5.(x) working in Win 7 64bit

[Edit - The initial solution was to set up a second user on the computer, then use Shift + Right Click and run Kmanager as the other user. The issue was resolved with the 1.4.5.6 Beta which runs normally]
=================================================

First 1.4.1 works fine on this machine. 1.4.5 acts as listed below, reinstalling 1.4.1 works perfectly again.

Downloaded 1.4.5, installed (seemed to go smoothly). Clicking to start, I get an hourglass for about 1/4 second, then it disappears and nothing happens. No message, no errors, no program window, no K manager process showing in task manager.

I've looked through the event viewer, but don't see anything specifically related to Kpro/Kmanager/Hondata - is there some exact place I should look? I've also checked the crash logs and don't see anything for Kpro/Kmanager/Hondata.

I've tried tweaking settings such as 'Run as Administrator' and 'Run in Compatibility for Windows XP SP2/3', but the behavior persists.

System is ~6 month old laptop:

Gateway NV79
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Intel Core i5, 4GB Ram (all stock settings, not overclocked, etc)
Bit Defender Antivirus
All current updates for OS and AV

Also, I dug an ancient Dell WinXP machine out. Who knows when it was last updated for XP or BitDefender. 1.4.5 installs and runs fine on it.

Any thoughts?

Gave that a shot. It was already set to "Turn on DEP for essential MS programs and services only" - 1.4.5 wouldn't run, 1.4.1 does. Tried setting it to 'Turn on for all programs', no luck and tried 'Turn on for all programs except..' and added Kpro to the list. No luck there either.

uninstall your antivirus software then.

Well, that probably won't happen because I need to keep this machine secure. I did turn off all AV, firewall, privacy control, activity monitoring, etc and install 1.4.5 - but results were same issues as before. Reverted to 1.4.1 and it works fine.

Do you have 1.4.1 and 1.4.5 completely uninstalled before reinstalling 1.4.5. I tried co-installing both on my computer with 1.4.1 in its on program files folder and it won't run either. It will open, but I get a memory error and it won't do anything. If I uninstall 1.4.5 (even with it in a different directory), 1.4.1 will run again.

Make sure you have no Hondata products on your computer before installing 1.4.5 and see if that helps. If not, after making sure there's still no Hondata programs installed, try modifying the 1.4.5 path during install into a new folder and see if that will help.

Spec - I thought we might have had something there. Thanks for the input. I was just installing the two programs 'over' each other. Gave it another shot by running the uninst000.exe program, delete all folders associated with Kpro, restart computer, turn off all AV, firewall, etc, install 1.4.5 to a clean directory, but still no luck.

So far, the only thing which makes any difference at all is running the program with processor affinity. If I set affinity for a specific processor, I see a window pop up on the screen for just a fraction of a second before it goes away, but still never seems to set any error or fault log. I'd also add, I can see the 'What's new' window, just not the program window.

Just seems strange 1.4.1 works perfectly fine in spite of my clumsy install/uninstalls, but 1.4.5 won't even run long enough to come up with an error!

That is sort of following my experience as well. Over the past few days, I've tried just about everything I can think of. Turn off antivirus, firewall, etc, specifically uninstall all hondata software, delete any folders remaining, scan registry and delete any remaining keys, fresh install of 1.4.5, tried basic / non aero theme, run in compatibility for win xp, run as administrator, disable all advanced parameters, run with processor affinity, but nothing seems to work. I have a second machine which is on XP with all updates and it refuses to run on that either. But on either machine, I go back to 1.4.1 and it runs fine.

Pull an old Dell out of the closet which hasn't been upgraded in years, running BD antivirus and 1.4.5 runs fine - even with a 'dirty' install, just going right over 1.4.1. Guess if we can't figure out what the problem is, I'll have to bite the bullet and get new batteries for the old machine and make it my tuning computer.

So far I have tried this on both XP and Windows 7 64 bit all with the most recent windows updates and it is running fine on both. Without being able to reproduce this it is very difficult to say what the problem may be.

Go into your task manager and list every running process.

See if these images are clear enough...

Old XP machine with 1.4.5 working fine:

New Win7 - 64 machine. I cut off all but essential services and tried a fresh install...still no luck:

Since I've had the old XP machine up and running, it has done some auto-updates. 1.4.5 seems to still be working OK on that, but I have one other XP machine which 1.4.1 works fine, but 1.4.5 doesn't

I see Mcafee (mcuicnt.exe) and bitdefender (on both machines) running. You need to try uninstalling these and see if the problem goes away.

I see those processes - it looks like McAffee and BD are both running on the machine which is also running Kmanager 1.4.5 with no problems. Only BD is running on the machine which won't execute Kmanager.

To try and avoid uninstalling BD antivirus, I booted my Win 7 machine in safe mode with no antivirus running, did a complete uninstall of Kmanager, deleted all files and registry keys, restarted in safe mode, did a clean install of 1.4.5. It still functions exactly the same...I get the hour glass for about 1/4 second, then it simply disappears. No program, no error messages, etc, though the 'what's new' screen does show up with the updates in 1.4.5.

These were the only processes running at the time:

Any additional thoughts?

Just thought I'd update this thread.

I was holding out, hoping some of the additional tweaks would lead to compatibility with my Win7 / 64 computer. But as of today, I've tried all the 1.4.5.X variants up to .2 No Luck.

I went ahead and fully uninstalled all antivirus, 'formally' uninstalled 1.4.1 which was working, clean installed 1.4.5.1 - no luck. Then noticed the 1.4.5.2 update, formally uninstalled .1 and clean installed .2 Same symptoms as before. The 'What's New' window will open, but the actual Kmanager window does not. Click on the icon to start the program, no error, no window, no nothing. Re-tried all the tips, tricks, settings, compatibility, etc from above, still no luck. Go back to 1.4.1 and it works perfectly.

Still have no AV program, so thought I'd try today with 1.4.5.3 - same results. Tried a clean install in safe mode and still wouldn't run.

As mentioned before, I'm not sure when the Kmanager.ini file is written ...apparently somewhere between clicking run and when the "this software is several months old..." prompt comes up. However far 1.4.5 gets in the process, the .ini file still never gets written. However just after I click run on 1.4.1 for the first time, the .ini file is written and I get the "months old..." prompt, OK it, and then 1.4.1 opens.
