ODB2~1 conversion with P28,fast idle valve still needed?

Post by fox30 »

The ODBII cars dont have it, the ODBI throttle bodies did.

I have A 96 integ GSR. with stock throttle body on a skunk intake. Hondata S200 etc.. SOme other forums have mentioned that because they swapped the stock ODBII ECU to a ODBI, That the ODBI relied on a throttle body that came with a fast Idle Valve on the throttle body for smooth idling at very cold temperatures.. I cars with ODBII ecu's had throttle bodies that didn't have this. Has anyone who swapped a odbII to a ODBI swap the throttle body too? My only problem is extreme cold starts.. That I mean, the car has not run for more than 6 hours and has sat in the 28 degree or below the whole time for it to show its crappy idle.
If I start the car , and it has ran within a few hours it is fine.

FOr anyones information this board doesnt have a answer to this.
I found this in another forum talking about hondata swaps etc..
This DOES work. If you have a ODBII car and you swap the ECU from a p72(ODBII) to a p28(ODBI) with a conversion harness. You should also swap your throttle body to that of a throttle body of an ODBI car. The ODBI expects the COld Idle Valve to be present at fridgid temperatures. Not necessary for you california climate peeps ; ) But in other areas of the world where winter is a factor for very cold starts, if this is your setup. Try switching the throttly body to a BBK and put the stock cold idle valve on the bottom. Or junkyard and find a throttle body with it on the bottom. Youll see coolant lines running from the IAC to this valve then back to the block. Your cold starts will be as perfect as a new car again.
Of course your IAC must be checked, air bubbles in the coolant etc.. must be good before you go to this step.
