Hondata

Good evening,

I have a s300 installed and running on an old laptop with windows xp. I have been tuning my car on this setup for 3-4 years now with no problems.

Today I was checking some things and making adjustments (as I typically do). I turn off the car and the laptop. I left everything sitting as-is as went to go check the compression of my engine.

I then turn on the laptop and the car and windows prompts me with the "new hardwar found" note. And It doesn't even recognise it as a "Hondata s300 ECU" but as "USB <-> Serial" which in Windows' device manager is under a separate unknown device section rather than the usb section. So when I try to reinstall the drivers (mannualy and through the wizard) via the smanager folder it cant find the drivers for the device.

So far I have tried the following with no luck.

rebooting the computer
unplugging the battery
using the help menu driver update
installing the latest version of hondata (I was previously using 1.4.0)
using the dirver update in 1.4.7
tested my usb ports in my laptop with other devices.

So im not sure if its an ecu issue (maybe something fried after all these years) or what.

Any help is appreciated.

Something else I should note is that my car still seems to run fine on the last upload I ran before this happend.

I also do not have access to another laptop to see if that could fix the the issue. But Shawn934 seems to have a similar issue and has tried that with little luck as well. Although he recently tried to add a boost function which I dont use; My hondata setup hasn't changed in years.

OK I have an update to share with all eventhough I have been emailing tech support as well.

This was accomplished on my friends laptop using windows 7

I made a small breakthrough although the same resulting problem occurs. I was able to get the s300 driver installed, but hondata itself still reads offline and can't communicate with the ecu.

I accomoplished this by allowing windows update to search for the driver and let it install drivers for a "USB Serial Converter" as windows update thinks is appropriate. Then I went to the device manager and updated the drivers mannually by selecting the hondata s300 ECU drivers and it actually let me install them. when ecu was recognised as "USB <-> Serial" device in Other Devices it didn't let me do anything.

So now it shows up under usb devices as a hondata s300 ecu and states in device properties that the device is working properly. However the result is the same where hondata can't communicate with the ecu (reading offline in the bottom corner). So im not sure if im closer to solving this issue.

I also had a chance to take a closer look at the ecu and no burns of any kind, and the two led lights on the s300 board are green when the ignition is on. The only place I havn't checked for burns on the ecu yet is between the s300 and the ecu mother board.

I hate to bother with another post but its been 2 days since I have recieved a response via email about my issue. I have tried giving as much input as possible, and I'm not sure what else to do in attempting to fix this issue.

I know this was a while ago, but did you get this resolved as I appear to be having the same problem.

both of my laptops just wont recognise the s300 all they see is a usb to serial converter.

any help would be much appreciated
