Kpro problem on 2005 Civic Ex

Post by imerjauto »

Anytime the car revs past 4k whether in park or under load the car/ecu shuts down. I'm not talking a rev limiter or boost cut type of shutting down. I mean shuts off and has to be restarted. I have been finding issues all over the net with people having this problem. I know Hondata is aware of this issue, but a cause or a fix can not be found anywhere. This car has been sitting on our dyno since Saturday and any light that can be shed on this issue would be much appreciated. I've already had several other tuners look at the logs and file and nothing wrong can be found.

You say it happens in Park? Is this an automatic transmission?

No, I meant neutral. It's manual 5 speed.

I've tried 2 different Kpro units, replaced fuel pump, Hondata map sensor, stock map sensor, injectors are 12ohm, checked the timing on the modified camgear, running factory resistor plugs, and the car drove in from a 350 mile trip to get here with zero issues on the stock ecu.

Here you go:

On this particular datalog the problem occurs at 4300rpm. But the problem is not consistent to 4300rpm. Sometimes it will happen at 3500 or sometimes at 5000rpm.

Try calibrating your TPS in the software.

Did that and no change. Problem happened at 4150rpm this time. Here's that datalog:

I know you and Joe were talking about our issue and he called me with some other suggestions, which where: Check spark timing, check all grounds and relocate o2 wiring per diagram. All of that has been done and problem still exists. Any other suggestions? Gas and a match maybe?

Here's a 2 year old link to some one else having the same issues

Why is the AF ratio not reading? What injectors are you using? Is the cat clogged?

I don't know why you cant see the afr works fine for me. Bounces around between12-13 then shoots to 16 (max my wideband can read) when the problem occurs. Injectors are SRT4 500cc reading at 12.8ohms. There is no cat...........(turbo car)

I have it set to log the stock O2 and I see no activity, how do you have it setup?

Perhaps it would be helpful to list everything that has been done to the vehicle.

O2's are disabled and we are using the NGK AFX wideband.

The car has the following:

Turbo kit using 20g turbocharger, 38mm WS, HKS bov
Built bottom end consisting of Wiseco pistons, K1 rods, sleeved block.
Stock head with Hondata modified AEM gear.
2 1/2 inch exhaust (no cat)
500cc SRT4 injectors.

And thats pretty much it.

We verified fuel pressure is consistent through out the problem(45psi)
Power to the injectors stay on through out the problem
Injectors pulse is consistent through out

Gonna check coil signal next.

Coil #1 and #2 lose signal during problem but comes back on after about a sec (this is at full throttle when car is dying. ) Coil #3 loses signal and never comes back on. #4 never loses signal (again while car is dying).

WTF..........I hate this red headed step child of the civic family.

I'm starting to think it's that modified trigger on the cam gear. Possibly made incorrectly? After all those sensors tell the ecu when to provide spark correct?

Make sure the sensor for the trigger is in the hole all the way and bolted down properly.
