Fried ECU. How to Handle? :(

Post by imbest123 »

Car was off no more than 5 hours when I went to go start it back up. CEL doesnt flash and kmanager wont detect the ecu when on the ON position which basically means my ECU is fried. The car showed no signs of anything wrong prior to trying to start it on as it ran perfect before all this. Wiring looks fine on pinouts/wiring harness and the ECU fuse is fine.

2002 RSX-S
Factory ECU (Immobilizer Enabled)
- I dont remember the exact serial number (my car is stuck at work) but I know it is a PRB-A06 or A03... i cant remember
K20A2
Cold Air Intake
2.5" Exhaust
K20A2 Cold Air Map
~ 120k miles if i recall correctly
Kmanager 1.4.0.0

No knocks throughout datalogs and I have never seen the MIL flash. Ground looks good. Still using the OEM 310cc injectors and OEM NGK spark plugs (not fouled, replaced less than 7,000 miles ago). Checked voltage via navigation and showed 11.8V which is more than enough to start the car and I even tried jumping it (yeah... i got desperate and hoped it was battery/alternator lol)

My only concern is that I bought K-Pro less than a month ago and it's been running great until today. How does Hondata deal with people in this situation since it's basically brand new?

I am going back to my Hondata dealer to go through this process but I would like to know beforehand what I will be getting myself into.

TIA!

alright my ecu worked in another car so ill figure it out from here. gonna check out fuses/main relay tomorrow

out of curiosity though, id still like to know hondata's kpro warranty (if any)

from what i understand:

$100 - Inspection to see if it's the ECU or Kpro
$600 - New ECU (if it is the ECU that's bad)
$100 - Swap K-Pro from old ECU to knew ECU

if all is going through hondata of course. please correct me if i am mistaken

If your ecu and kpro worked in another car just fine, then the pricing means nothing, since you dont need another ecu. :)

Fix the problem with the car.

yeah i fixed it the same day i posted that. im just wondering what hondata's warranty, if any, is. obviously they wont cover the ecu but do they cover the daughterboard if the right hardware was used on the car?
