Some problems with first European JRSC Hondata, please help

Post by ACe »

Hi,

I have a B18C4 engine which is same as B18C1.
JRSC'ed at 11 psi, 440cc injectors, P28, Hondata s200b (11psi big boost map)
B&M fpr, static pressure 43psi, map relocator.
Now the problem.
When everything was installed the car ran fine. Throttle response in closed and open loop was perfect. The map relocater also allowed a very smooth operation between closed and open loop.
However, idle has been very low since the ECU swap, i.e. it idles at about 200-400 rpm. The car even went sometimes off when stepping of throttle. Then, after some boosted miles, let's say about 50, suddenly the ECU does not go into closed loop anymore. Actually I am not sure if this is true but the a/f gauge does not jump from left to right anymore. It is constantly in rich and only drops in lean when you step of gas. Also, the car stodders while maintaining a (lower) rpm, this means when I drive on the highway at a constant speed and at lower rpm.
When I took off the o2 sensor, it looks very black. The mileage, which is very poor, proves that too.
What do you think that could be?
Possible suggestions would be:
1. O2 sensor of the European B18C4 is slightly different to the one of the GSR. A guy from Honda headoffice here in Germany said that they work all the same but that there is a reason why the all have different order numbers even if the plug is the same and the construction (heated with 4 wires, or only 2 wires etc.)
2. On the tech pages I read that if you swap a ECU, the new ECU could have another power consumption and may therefore not work 100%
That could affect the TPS voltage. However, fuel cut off when stepping of gas works fine.
3. Related to the low idle, maybe there is sth with the IACV. Maybe the US ECU's "know" other characteristics of IACV's than European ECU's.
4. Maybe this is related to the different atmospheric pressures here.
We are at a quite low altitude (about 180meters)
5
. Maybe another million possible reasons :(
Can one of you help me out of my desperation?
If there is somebody willing I would also be glad to give a phone call, no matter what this costs me. Just PM me your number and I will call you.

Many thanks in advance,

Andreas

What happens if you reset the ecu by unplugging it?

Spunkster,

I will not answer directly cause there is a new situation.
The car is running fine now.
I did two things.
Re-checked timing and saw that it was set to 14. I set it to 17 and I turned the idle speed screw about half a turn to left. Then reset the ECU.
Idle was then fine but the hickup between stepping of throttle and stepping on was still there. But then I gave the ECU the chance to adjust itself, i.e. I made a longer ride of about 800 kilometers today.
When I was back, on the last 30km I noticed that the hickup almost disappeared and that the mileage suddenly was as good as I was used.
Now the engine reacts really good. The threshold between closed and open loop is also very smooth.
Will see what happens tomorrow...and hope it will be gone forever.
Nevertheless many thanks for your attention Spunkster, I appreciate that.
BTW, the ride I did today was to a US military base. I went there with a friend to see some of his mates.
They were really impressed to see a Civic Station Wagon.
They were more impressed to see that this Station Wagon has a GSR engine from factory. And after a ride they were almost amazed.
Hehe, I am so proud of my Hondata baby. :D
