[b]O2 sensor prob and check engine lite on in '93 civic

Post by Jason »

:?: Wassup... Anyone out there know if I can use another O2 sensor other than the one required for this car... Just checked with the local parts stores and they wanted $300 for one.... and honda wanted $245... This O2 sensor is the single wire non heated version. The Honda dealership said that the Civic CX models had these and they only made them for 2 years... I just replaced the O2 sensor with a Universal Bosch single wire type. and the check eng. light is still on after clearing the ECU.

I also replaced the 8 valve D15b8 with a 16-valve D15b2 out of a '88 Civic DX model. I just completely rebuilt the B2 engine and dropped it in using all other parts from the B8 8-valve engine, including intake and exhaust manifolds. It idles smoothly... but on accelleration, bogs down until the rpms climb then it really takes off. I did punch a hole in the CAT... oops... I plan to replace the stock exh. manifold with headers later. I have already checked the valve clearances and the timing-(looks correct) and they are correct. Any suggestions??? It is really starting to pi** me off... have to plan ahead before I pull out in front of someone...

I am also wondering if I have to replace/reprogram the ECU to work with this engine or should it work fine????

thanks,
Jason

You should be able to buy a stock NGK replacement o2 sensor for WAY less than $300. I think there's some website like oxygensensor.com or something with great prices. And you must match your o2 sensor with your ECU...which ECU are you running? Not too sure about your other problems.

Thanks... Rechecked the timing last night and it is off about 3 teeth on the camshaft pulley/gear...  As for the check engine light... I guess I will see if correcting the timing will help get rid of it.... At first glance the timing looks correct.... but a closer look tells all... I will take care of that tonight... Got a trip to Hotlanta for the weekend... and I don't want to have timing probs the whole weekend.

The web site you mentioned DAX comes up as something else... Do you know of any other sites for wholesale prices on O2 sensors???

Thanks Dude!!!

I am coming to hang out with a friend of mine.... she lives in Rex... (simpson). I am also staying with a buddy of mine in Marietta. Will probably cruise thru some clubs later tonight... Maybe I'll bump into ya... or email me... jharville@yahoo.com

Oh... update... re-adjusting the timing made all the difference... it will now chirp 1st and 2nd... but the check engine light is still on... I'll figure it out later.... I guess.. Thanks for the info tho...

Later,

Jason
