Datalog not recording any info from sensors

K-Pro Serial: 06957
KManager Vers: 2.02
Calibration: Stock
Datalog: Can't get one...
Vehicle: '03 Type-S
ECU: '03 Type-S
Modifications: I/RH/E/Motor Mounts

Symptoms:

(1) I can connect to, and upload/download calibrations to K-Pro, but when I try and datalog, there is no data (rpms, MAP, etc stay at 0).
(2) Temp gauge in the car stays at "C" permanently.
(3) Car is very difficult to start. Starter keeps going, but engine doesn't come on. VERY strong gas smell even if the car does *NOT* start, indicating fuel is flowing.

*IF the car does start (doesn't always):

(4) Idle is very rough/sputtery -- fluctuates wildly between 800-1200 rpms.
(5) Car sputters & rpms drop if I give it anything other than light throttle
(6) Car sputters & rpms drop if I go beyond 3k

Problems started approximately 1 day after install of a Race Header and sub-frame mount (other 2 mounts were already in for a couple weeks). Problems started when I was trying to head home from work the day after the install.

Of note, when I was jacking up the car to lower it from the jackstands, the jack failed & slipped from the front mounting point, causing it to slam up under the black bumper cover. I'm guessing maybe it damaged the radiator/fan sensor, and car is in limp mode and dumping tons of fuel, which in turn could have clogged the plugs, explaining the starter difficulties. Problem with this theory is.....why can't i get any sensor data from K-Pro??? :?

How long does it take to upload a map? It sounds to me like the ECU has a bad map in it. I would clear the security and wait 2 minutes with the key off and then attemp to re-upload a map. The meter when uploading should take a long time.

Things I've already tried

Car won't start this morning, so I can't get the exact code from K-Pro, but the only one I was getting previously was for secondary O2 (b/c of the race header).

Tried unplugging both the ECU & battery, multiple times for several minutes.

Visual inspection of some of the fuses (about to go do more in depth inspection...it was dark last night).

Checked grounds:
Fuel Rail -- grounded to intake mani cover
Engine -- grounded to ABS unit bolt (since Innovative mounts don't have a grounding point)
Any others I should look for???

Car was originally on a custom Cal, but I switched back to stock when I started having problems to see if it was a cal issue....no difference

Thanks for the reply Justin -- I did actually notice the uploads seemed to be going too quickly -- 5-10 seconds. I attributed it to reading that KManager would only upload the deltas? Anyways, I was surprised when I uploaded the base map and it still only took 5-10 instead of the 1-2 minutes I was expecting....

I am researching the clear security feature, as I've read that some people screw it up & thus can't upload new maps, but will definitely try.

OK...cleared the ECU and uploaded my previously working map.

I can now see sensor data in KManager, but car won't start....wondering if I fouled up my plugs from running extremely rich for a day?

Close down K-manager, unplug USB and then reopen and attach everything. Make sure the upload takes the long time again. This will make sure that the clear ECU upload went properly.

Possibly upload a datalog here. You could inspect your plugs and clean them and then replace them. The clear ECU works, but sometimes the first upload is still kind of bogus. I typically double check.

Well, I cranked the car with gas at full throttle to put the car into "clear mode" and keep the injectors from pulsing -- after doing this, the car actually was able to start for a couple seconds before dying....b/c now I've drained my battery.

So now that the ECU is reading, I'm hoping that it's just a flooded condition, or clogged injectors or fouled plugs as you suggested. 15 minute walk to Home Depot for a battery booster then I'll be back to confirm that theory....

Ah, I was going to say to clutch start it, that would allow you to start the car without the injectors firing, but either way will work..good luck.

Battery is fully charged now, but I can't get the engine to come to life for even a second now. Pulling plugs now...unfortunately don't have a means to perform a compression test myself.

if the plugs are fine, try uploading a datalog so maybe hondata can see if something is not working

Plug was definitely wet when I pulled it, just didn't snap the pic in time. So hopefully this is why it won't start...question now is, what contributed to the rich condition....coulda been the corrupted tune, or fucked up ECT/Fan sensor...

Well if your O2 sensor is bad that could cause it to constantly run extremely rich. The ecu does use coolant temperature for several tables to determine fuel, idle richness, and ignition values.

Well, it was the plugs! Car is running great now. Pretty sure it was due to a corrupt tune that couldn't read any sensor data (could have been one of several) and started dumping mad amounts of fuel.

All is well! Thanks for the help

Glad you got it cleared up. Thanks for posting the resolution.

I am having the exact same problem, after my engine was built. I can get the car to start, randomly, but when it does Kmanager doesn't read any sensors.

I changed the plugs, erased the ECU, uploaded two different tunes, and I still got nothing.

I have uploaded a log of what happens when i try to start the engine.

Thanks
