Why am I running so rich?

Post by Annihilator »

Hi, I have a b18b1 with forged 9:1 pistons, and a 16g turbo. I'm running RC 440cc injectors. I took the p74 basemap and adjusted for the injectors, along with disabling the vtec spool check problem, and I'm running filthy rich. The car does run, but it's fouling out plugs left and right. I've tried setting the injectors all the way back to 370's and set -30% fuel for the adjustment bar, and it's still rich.

I can't justify pulling fuel back like this if it's not even changing anything, and I'm sure it's not the right way to fix this problem. Am I supposed to be doing something for the injector delay time or something? I have checked and have ~20 inches of vacuum, and the timing is pretty close to stock ignition timing via a timing light.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can't just take a base map, enter your injectors and go. You have to adjust your fuel maps for your setup(get tuned).
thank you, thank you, I'm here all week

Ok, so it is safe to pull fuel back with that scaling method though? I'll be installing a wideband in the next week (have to get a exhaust built first), and then I'll be able to make adjustments based on a wideband, instead of just how badly the car is smoking and fouling out plugs.

No, input the injector to the correct trim, and adjust the map.

Alright I'll start adjusting with that method. Thanks for the help.

well just an update: The tune doesn't look to be the culprit anymore. I pulled my old spark plugs and three of them looked super rich, and one looked almost new. Did a compression test and got this:

Cylinder 1: 70psi
Cylinder 2: 130psi
Cylinder 3: 0psi (this is the one that looked almost new)
Cylinder 4: 133psi

So I have a major issue somewhere.

The "stock" basemap from Hondata for the P74 is way richer than it should be. I ran the Hondata with my B18B completely stock on that basemap and it was running 11:1 AFs. Before the Hondata I got AFs in the 13s on the stock engine. It took me a while of tuning to get that "stock" basemap to not run really rich on the stock engine. I have a pretty decent map for my B18B with a 14b turbo that you could start with if you would like.
