Cant get my display to give me any readings

Post by BLKACK1 »

I recently just had a s300 installed into a odb1 P28 ecu

Now after getting my ecu back from the guy that installed it(a autorized hondata installer) I uploaded an LS basemap to the ecu, went threw all the parameters and set it up as best I could. I went to start up the car and if fired right up, but was running extreamly rich(afr of 10:1) which was to be expected. I know that basemaps are not exact replicas and are just intended to get the car started and ready to fine tune.

now heres my problem(s)

first off Im getting a CEL that stays consistantly lit up but is not showing any codes. Any insight to this?

Second, when I go to datalog, Im not getting any reading from my display(rpms, tp %, ect, ect) my computer is showing that the s300 is online. I have the onboard dataloging box unchecked and have the lightning bolt (dataloging button press in) i also hit the red record button and the timer next to it starts counting up. when I stop it and go to download and review it, there is nothing there.

Ive tried to diagnose this my self by pulling the ecu, removing the cover and s300 circuit board, as i was going down this checklist.

http://www.hondata.com/s300socketing.html

I relized that the installer failed to remove the resistor in the J12 spot. I call him on this and he says he never removes those and my problem is elsewhere and thats pretty much all the help ive recieved from him

would not cutting this resistor cause my problem? im trying to get the car ready to take to servion for a tune but i would like to resolve this issure before hand in an effort to save my self the money of having him diagnose and repair it.

Im at work right now, so I dont have a copy of the calibration(smanager is on my laptop at home) if its nesisary ill post it at my earliest convience.

the car is a 93 integra, with I,IM,st2 cams, Header, stock cat, cat back exaust.

when u press the datalog button,u are live datalogging, then will be nothing stored or to download from the ecu.
simply go to the graph or display screen & the data should be showing.
if u want to record & keep the data that u are seeing then press the record button.
its only when u have onboard datalogging enabled & have activated it by whatever means u have selected that there will be data stored & to download from the ecu.

u really need to first diagnose the solid CEL.

was the car running fine before u sent the ecu away & no changes were made to anything on the car in the time before u got the ecu back & tested it?

OK that clearifys alot about the dataloging. i will double check that and update tomarrow.

ive been searching for a while about the CEL but still nothing pertinate to my situation. ill keep on it though.

yes the car was running fine before I swaped ecus and still runs great when I put my PR4 back in and there where no changes made to the car in the time between.

forgive my ignorance,but '93 PR4 is obd0 or obd1?
in other words are u using an adapter harness to plug up the P28 ecu?

it is ODB-1, so there is no conversion harness needed.

on a side note:

I have also run this ecu before it was chiped on my LS V-tec and It ran with no problems or CEL's, dont know if that helps anything

So I just went back out using the same calibration as posted above with just the datalog pressed in and I double check both the display and graph and still no readings, im think im going to go pick up a set of small wire clippers and try and cut the J12 jumper to see if this gets me anywhere.

i missed that bit,
yes cutting the J12 jumper enables full duplex mode on the datalogging connector,so u should see some data then, your installer dont appear to have any other customers who datalog with hondata lol.

im not entirely sure, but my understanding is it wont have any effect on releasing your solid CEL,unless its something perculiar to the s300 board.

anyway see how u go...chop away....
& see if he has missed anything else while your in there.

J12 must be cut for the s300 to work properly. Cut that and then try it.

thanks spunkster, I was waiting for you to chime in on this.

So I just got back from radio shack where I bought a set of small wire clippers and removed the J12 jumper

Still having the same issue. A solid CEL, running exteamly rich, and no reading from the display or graph :(

Any other suggestions?

Whho actually installed this nad have you taken it back to them to have them take a look at it? Based on the fact that they did not cut J12, they may not have socketed the ECU correctly.

on second thought, I think I would rather send the ECU dirrectly back to hondata to have them diagnos and repair and just get my money back if there was somekind of installation error on import sports part.

I just dont know if I trust the guy to addmit or even fix any wrong doing on there part, if there is any wrong doing at all

would that be possible?

For us to look at it will be a minimum of $100 and you will have to obtain an RMA number before sending it in. If there are problems with the socketing there will be additional charges. It really would be best for you to take this back to the original installer and have them take a look.
