Boosted D16 Ecu problem

Post by Hondachef »

After doing some “homework” and research in your forum, I have come to the conclusion that I need some serious help, I am new at this so I apologize in advance if some of my questions are already overly asked. But I think I have a unique situation in my hands.
I am working on a project that has taken me about 5 years to get to where I’m at and I want to do it right so your help will be greatly appreciated.
I have a 1989 Honda CRX Si (SOHC) with the current items and mods

Engine: D16a6 (clean rebuilt with no leaks) USDM
Act Street & Strip clutch
Act ultra lite flywheel
Custom Cat back
T3/t4 Hybrid turbo with manual boost controller & fuel pressure regulator

Apexi turbo timer
Street fire msd ignition
Msd street blaster coil
Msd Distributor cap & Rotor
AEM fuel rail

While researching my vehicle I found out that its been running on a 1987 Acura PG7 Ecu Not the original PM6 is suppose to run with but since the day I got it I have never had any problems. I just recently made all the mod upgrades and the car will run until it sees 6 LBS of boost-at that point the ecu shuts down the car.
I don’t want to ruin my investment so I stop running it, got a fresh paint job and body kit. Now, I would like to set it right and get a Hondata system, but I have noticed that my current ecu and cars stock ecu are not compatible with the Hondata S300 system because its an OBD0 and I need at least an OBD1- I have learned that a P61 and a P28 work with your Hondata S300, but not sure it would work with my vehicle and al its application. I am aware that I need to change part of my ignition, I need a new “dizzy”
I am also researching the fuel injector, the stock ones are (LOW IMPENDANCE-STOCK FLO RATING 235) I have learned from the info on your page that different ecu’s use different impendence so if I’m changing the ecu I have to get an injector to match the impendence rating so I don’t fry the system. I was thinking about going for a 440 or a 525 flow rating, yes I am aware I need a performance fuel pump. I have seen a Hondata S300 system /ecu combo for sale from horsepowerfreeks.com and was wondering if that combo would eventually work, or please guide me to do the right thing, so that I am not blowing my investment.
I’m not trying to build a super crazy car, just something that looks good, runs good, can be a daily driver, but that I can give it a couple runs on a track or drag strip on the weekend.
Thank You for any help you can give me.

I do not believe there is a direct repelacement OBD1 distributor that will work with yoru engine. You may be able to get somethign to work, but it is not somethign that we support or have anyy other information on. If you can get around that you will need to remove the resistor box and run saturated injectors which RX makes in up to 750cc.

To use a Hondata system, you will need to use a compatible OBD1 ecu from the list at http://www.hondata.com/ecus.html . You can then use the Hondata s100 or s300 depending on what options you want ( http://www.hondata.com/sproducts.html ). I would recommend the s300.

D16A6 and hondata woes

Post by lenny_90crxsi »

Why not put a complete z6 head with injectors and dizzy as well as the p28 ecu on your ride. I am thinking of doing exactly what I just mentioned on my 1990 crx si with the D16A6. That is the only logical direction if you really want to use the Hondata. Just my opinion.
