Yeah, the higher redline to me is more about fun. Nothing like passing someone at over 8000 rpm's. Still looking at the 4 piston racing 2.0 street engine. Maybe next year.EFICU wrote: Mon Jul 05, 2021 5:35 pmThat's good. Yeah it makes a big difference with these well designed intakes. They work well and keep the temps cooler which is nice.MM082001 wrote: Mon Jul 05, 2021 4:25 pm I'm impressed with the new air inlet temps. Most of the time I notice a 5*-10* F low temp. The header wrap definately helped there too.
What RPM do you think this motor is good for if I upgraded the oil pump?
You will run into valve train limitations and rotating assembly concerns according to some people if you go over 9000. From what I've seen, 9000 is just about the limit whether you have the oil pump or not, 8600 is the limit without of course. You won't pick up any extra power from revving higher, it would a purely fun type addition to your setup.
Datalog looks great! Had some knock pop up, some in your 5th gear cruising, so I made an adjustment there and one on the high cam. Give this one a go and we'll see how it goes.

Re: VTC on decel
It all looks great! Fueling is right on and no knock. I think we're in a good spot for your setup as is it is. The fuel tables I have carry out to 9000, but if you do add the oil pump in the future let me know so we can make sure the AFR is good from 8600-9000. It will be very close if not right on, just saying so we can double check everything there.
Keep me in the loop on what you end up doing. That 4 piston engine would be a killer. Pretty much anything 4 Piston does is gold, so you're headed down a good path. For now though, it looked great!

Might need a few more changes. I just can't leave things alone. Good thing I did. One of the vacuum inserts on the intake was loose and I didn't get all the gasket maker off, possible causing a small amount of coolant entering the intake. I noticed a weird coloring around the intake port of the thermal gasket.
I also have a whistle at light throttle that might be the way I ported the rounded nub/hole that is in the just inside the intake. I also port matched the throttlebody to the spacer and added turbines ridges right at the end of the port.
Please let me know if you think I helped performance or hurt it once I can get you a datalog.

Re: VTC on decel
Ok, I was able to get rid of the whistle in the intake. It was the way I ported the hump at first. I didn't get rid of enough of it. There is a new knock sensor in the block now, that was a $100 dollar mistake. Can't wait to find a good road to test everything on. I notice something at the vtec change over part of the data log. Big spike on AFR.EFICU wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 12:07 pm It all looks great! Fueling is right on and no knock. I think we're in a good spot for your setup as is it is. After watching a few videos on porting, I decided to try to add some turbulence around the injector. This is what I came up with.

Overall the datalog looks good. I made a couple part throttle fuel changes, and the lean spike you see isn't as bad as what you're seeing. It only went to 13.4 or so, but the average numbers were only off by very little. But I did make some small adjustments there. It's always hard to get that crossover just right at vtec, but it should be pretty good on this one.
Take it for a spin and see how it goes. I pulled a little bit of timing where that knock popped up as well.

Re: VTC on decel
Yeah it looks good. It might have picked up some in the midrange, but there isn't much changed all over anyways. Doesn't mean it hasn't helped the drvability or some aspects though just because the fueling hasn't changed much. No knock though which is great.
Here is the next one, made a few more adjustments for that lean area at vtec.

Damn, it was hot and I just didn't run nearly as good as I wanted to. First run, missed 2, and second run left traction control on. 3 runs in the low 15's and one high 14. I need to compare my old slips.

Re: VTC on decel
By looking at the time slips, looks like all your runs were 15.xx, the 14.9 was the guy you raced since you're car #606. It's tough, with 91 octane and 120* intake temps on the start on a 100* day you aren't going to set any records unfortunately.
For some people my outlook on this may be wrong, but the fact that you went out there and beat on it with 100-120* intake temps and didn't have any knock is what makes me happy, well you had 2 on one run in 4th anyways. My goal is to make them where you can have fun with it all year and not worry in the back of your mind if you have knock. We can make a file where it won't retard the ignition for intake temps for a track run, but I don't know that it would help too much. If you want to though, let me know. Retuned with a race header and 60* intake temps in the winter would make a huge difference, but I know the race header is out of the question on your car. I would see how it goes when the temps are reasonable though, nobody is out trying to set times in 100* heat. That and Sac Raceway isn't really known for being good on Wednesday, not that traction is a problem in any gear but first, just sayin'.
Sorry I couldn't get you a better time.

I found a header that will let me keep my CAT. Megan Racing MR-SSH-HC06SI. Might look for some 3" exhaust pipe at some local muffler shops. $200 for this header.
