EP3/K20R, CAMCMD<>CAM

Post by feralcomprehension »

Hi all,

My tuner pointed out to me that the cam position control in my car has more variance than he normally sees. Here's an image of what he's talking about, +/- 4* or so:

Image

This is on my '05 EP3 w/ JDM K20R swap. The KPro ECU was the original one from the EP3 and I bought it from HPTAutosport in September of 07.
KPro SN=46419
Software version: 4.3.6.0
ECU PN=37820-PNF-A13 (From ECU Cover)
ECU SN= 324579-4809 (From ECU Cover)
ECU PN from connector: 37820-PNF-A12
ECU SN from connector: 323057-4721

Oil (M1 5w30) and filter (Honda Filtech 01A) were replaced yesterday so oil is clean and full.

I read on the forums several instances where this turned out to be an ECU issue, so I'm reaching out here. I will also ensure that the VTC solenoid functions as expected/is clean and the corresponding filter screen is clean as well.

@Hondata, any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Additional information:
I sourced the motor through HMotorsOnline and Steve was pretty insistent that I replace the chain tensioner before installing the engine in the car, so I bought and installed the Hybrid Racing unit.

Also I got my KPro in 2017, not 2007.

This could be caused by a faulty VTC cam gear that has bad seals in it and it is moving it and it then looses pressure and it moves it again and it goes back and forth.

Thanks for the quick reply. Def a mechanical issue, you think? The valve works and the screen was clean, so no joy there.

To rule the ECU out, try it in a known working vehicle and see how it responds.
