Hello, i have an '03 rsx type s and I am going to get the reflash but I got a question about the rev limit. In the dyno for the rsx it shows the power cutting off at like 8200 rpm and start to drop so does having the rev limit at 8600 help your cars preformence. And if i get the reflash with the stock rev limit is it safe to shift at 8100 or 8200 rpm or is that really bad for the engine?

If you get the flash with the stock rev limit of 8100 (redline 7900), you should shift before 8100. Bouncing off the rev limiter is somewhat stressful for the engine.

As for the hp dropping off at 8200 and still going up the band a bit. I have my rev limiter at 8600 and I generally shift at 8400 - 8500. You want the most power to the wheels all the time when accelerating through your gears. By shifting at a higher rpm, even though you're generating less hp than before, you land the next gear in a higher rpm, which generates more power than if you had shifted sooner.

Think of it this way... you should be concerned with the area under the curve when planning shift points. Take a dyno and visualize a window of 2500 rpm that you can place anywhere on the rpm range. Slide the window along the dyno until you find the place where you get the most area under the curve. This should end up in the area of 6100 - 8600. Now, just to be safe, shift at 8500 or lower (whatever makes you comfortable).

Which row of numbers would you rather use. If you want to stick to the idea of calculating area under the curve, lets say each value is worth 1 x value so we can simply add them all up to find the area,

The first row comes out with 180, the second comes out with 140. Obviously the first row is preferable, even though the numbers started dropping off first.
