K-Pro / ECU fitment issues

Post by Quick Silver »

Hello,

I have a '04 Honda Civic with a '04 K20A2 swapped in. I bought K-Pro and the shop that did my swap said that the "box" Hondata uses to repackage the ECU and add K-Pro electronics was too big and wouldn't fit. So, the took all the electronics out and put them in the "stock" box. I have some concerns about this:

1. I don't understand why the box wouldn't fit. Shouldn't it?
2. Should I be concerned about electrical interferance since the electronics are not in the box you use?
3. Now that the electronics are out of the box you use, I can't simply plug the USB cable into the USB port. The shop that did the swap said something about "pulling down" the ECU to get to the USB port.

Needless to say I am not happy about this. I paid a lot of money for K-Pro, and I expect to be able to use it as intended.

Please help!

Can you provide pictures? All the Civic/RSX ECU cases are the same size so the reason for the swap doesn't make any sense.

I just dropped my car off this morning at the body shop to get the front bumper repaired. When I get it back I will take some pix.

I don't understand the fitment issues. When my RSX ECU was sent to you, did you simply add the K-Pro electronics to it, or did you you "repackage" all the electronics in another box? The reason I ask this question is because I have a metal box with a Hondata sticker on it. I would assume it is the box you guys installed K-Pro in, but for whatever the shop that did my swap took all the electronics out of this box and placed them in my Civic ECU box???

I apologize if this isn't making a whole lot of sense. I get half-ass answers when I talked to the shop that did the swap, so I can't provide complete details. I'll post pix ASAP.

The KPro consists of a daughter board which fits inside the ECU (the metal case). All the K Series ECU cases are the same size, so I can't see any reason why the KPro would need to be moved to another ECU case. We'll wait for pictures.

It's normal to put a K-Series ecu into the case of a civic ecu for fitment since the case is internally the same. They should be able to cut the hole in the case for the USB cable. Using the civic case allows it to easily bolt into the stock location.

Thanks for clearing that up. I feel a little bit better about it now. However, I have a new concern. I asked my wife to take some pictures of the ECU case so that I could provide them to you. Here are some pictures:

What ECU components are those? From my Civic? Please tell me this is not the RSX ECU components and the K-Pro daughterboard.

Thanks for clearing that up. So, I should ask the shop that did my swap to cut a hole in the Civic ECU casing so that I can run a USB cable to the USB port, right?
