Hi all. Not new to turbo, but new to Honda turbo.
I have a 1994 Integra with a B17A1 installed, EVO 8 turbo (Mitsu TD05-16HR 9.8), 550 cc injectors, small FMIC, etc.
Pretty typical install really. I built a semi ram turbo manifold. 2.5" Exhaust.
All the fun stuff is disabled, including VTEC. Keeping it simple to start. Running pump gas at 91 octane.
So, first time on the road, and just before it hits boost the engine gets pretty flat. Like timing is pulled, and of course it's being pulled via knock.
My A/F is rich (Just starting to tune) at about 12:1, so really no reason to start knocking even before hitting boost. Weird.
So, I disabled knock and she runs strong, spools great up to the wastegate opening (5-6 psi) around 4k and pulls hard to 8k...no audible pinging/knock at all.
So what gives with the knock sensor? I've used others (GM mainly) in the past and found them to be a reliable way to determine the edge of the tiing envelope. Not this thing!!!
Any insights?
Thx,
Chay Foss
Knock Counts? Fake???
Re: Knock Counts? Fake???
What ECU are you using?
What pistons are you using?

Re: Knock Counts? Fake???
Everything is stock in the B17.
The ECU is the 1992 GSR ECU. Not sure on the number.

Re: Knock Counts? Fake???
Have you tried decreasing the timing? What fuel are you using? Can you hear audible knock?
Re: Knock Counts? Fake???
No audible knock at all. This is with or without the knock retard active. Without she runs great.
With it falls flat due to retard.
I'm 99% it's picking up noise. I have not reduced timing...just feels like I shouldn't need to. The conditions are not present for knock/detonation. I'm getting knock counts at other weird times too. Seems like the sensor is very sensitive.

There may be something loose and rattling that being picked up and causing it to retard the timing. You could also have a faulty knock sensor. You may need to just disable the knock sensor.
