PLX fluid temp signal

Post by dc5itr01 »

Hi,
I would like to use my PLX fluid temp module with 2 water temp sensors connected.
The problem is that the module can only give out 1 analogue and 1 digital signal.
The 1 analogue signal is connected to my kpro4 analogue inputs.
Can i connect the digital signal to the digital inputs on the kpro4 board?
If so, how?
Or must i buy another fluid temp module to give the other analogue signal?

Thanks

If you got a kpro4 (3 might work also) you just connect the PLX serial output to ground and TTL In+
https://www.hondata.com/help/kmanager/i ... wiring.htm
Then ad the signals in your calibration under digital input, you can ad both temps through the same serial connection (and any other PLX sensors for that matter).

The PLX cannot output signals from 2 different sensors. You must have 2 PLX controllers in order to do this.

Reply from PLX,

Thank you for contacting us. The SM-Fluid Temperature does accept two fluid temp sensor connections. However, the analog voltage output does only provide a signal reading for the sensor connected to port 1. The data stream output, that is the TX port, does send both sensor readings out. This is what is used for our gauges, so our gauges will be able to distinguish each of the sensor readings. If you connect to a third party application that supports that style of connection and our iMFD serial output then it should show both sensor readings as well.

Yes and it's the same serial stream that kpro reads so I can't imagine it would be any problems?
I only have one temp sensor and afr connected but was thinking to ad one more temp sensor in the future.

You can send them both via serial, but you cannot send one via analog and one via serial.

PLEASE confirm the follow
So i use the 3.5mm jack cable which plugs into the serial tx port on the plx unit.
Strip the one end of the cable.
Ground that cable end to where? Ground on kpro digital input ground cable? Or chassis ground?
And the same cable connected to TTL in+ at kpro digital input ?

thank you so far!

Yes 3.5mm jack to GND and In+ on the digital input board, that's how I have mine connected.
Not sure what Spunkster tried to say but you can definitely send the same sensor info at the same time via digital and analog inputs.
Since there is only one analog output from each PLX box you obviously only got one sensor output from there.

Thanks for that. Confused!
There is only one cable from the 3.5mm jack. So that one cable must go to ground and in+ at the digi input slot?
Or am i missing something here?

The 3.5mm mono plug has two wires connected, cut the cable and you will see.

Thats correct as per normal jack. But plx told me their jack terminates with only one wire. Will strip it and check.

So i stripped the 3.5mm jack cable that came with the PLX module. As you can see in the attached pic, there is a white wire, a red wire, an uninsulated cable, and an aluminium shielding.
So now i am totally lost.

I assume red to in+
Which one to use for ground?

Thank you very much for your help thus far.

That's a stereo plug which use two wires (left & right) plus the uninsulated ground.
Can't remember how the socket on the PLX module looks like but it's probably possible to use either one or even both red&white to in+.
If you want o be certain just use a ohm meter and check which wire goes where on the plug.
