K-Pro and Rev Limiter

Post by Quick Silver »

With K-Pro and the base calibration, what is the redline increased to? I have heard 8500 and 8600. Which is it?

the revlimit for the base cal for the k20a2 is 8100 for stock...the stock tuned one is 8600. But if you want the base base base rsx :) it's like 6900

Ok....redline on an '02-04 RSX-S (stock) is what?

My understanding is that K-Pro, without any other mod, raises the stock redline from ____ to 8500 or 8600.

Does K-Pro have a "base cal" and a "stock tuned cal"?

My K-Pro came with two k20a3 base rsx tunes. One for 89 octane, another for 91. Both of these had the rev limiter set to 7300. There are other k20a3 tunes but most of them are based off the ep3 civic which has a different set of manifolds and other minor air flow differences.

Oh dude... hahaha.. I totally missed what you were asking for!

The stock rev limiter in the 02-04 rsx k20a2 is 8100, the redline is 7900.

My K-Pro came with a factory/stock k20a2-rsx and a tuned k20a2-rsx calibration. In addition, there is a k20a2-rsx-coldair calibration, which is basically a slightly more refined version of the #4 reflash. You can obviously change the rev limiter on any calibration at will, but in their default settings, they are:

rsx-stock: 8100
rsx-stock-tuned: 8600
rsx-coldair: 8600

There is the type of answer I was lookin for. Now, what is the "stock-tuned" cal? Just like it sounds? No bolt-ons what-so-ever and custom tuning the ECU?

Got me... but yeah that's what I'd assume. The difference between stock tuned and coldair tuned could be quite a bit. The reason I say that is the stock air system is pretty restrictive, regardless of the relative temp of the air coming in. When you change the intake on the car you are changing a few things for the engine.

1) air temp

2) volume of air

3) characteristics of the air flow (pulses, resonance)

Basically changing the cam angles with VTC in the tune allows you to tune in or out exhaust overlap (when the exhaust and intake valves are both open). Exhaust overlap is good in a N/A setup because it allows the exiting exhaust pulse to pull in air from the intake better. In the stock tuned cal vs the coldair cal, the cam angles on the low cam are different. The high cams are as well, not to mention that the stock tune doesn't return the cams to 30 degrees during cruise for EGR effect... but I don't know why that is the case. Also, the low cam has slightly different ignition settings in the lower rpm band from what I can see.

The major change seems to be VTC cam angle changes -- which I'm guessing is probably most related to the intake.

the stock tuned is much better than the stock cal. It smoothes the transition to vtec. Fuel/ignition/cam and vtec are changed...as well as rev limit.
