Downloading from the ECU

Post by foxyboy333 »

Hi,

Can I be a complete newbie and ask if it's possible to download from the ECU without corrupting it?

Cut a long story short, had my car mapped about 6 weeks ago the tuner didn't give me a copy of the final.skl, I went to the strip and needed to lower my launch control due to traction issues. I downloaded from ECU, saved the calibration then went on to edit some launch parameters and then uploaded back to ECU (all in the same session)

It resulted in the car being very unhappy, kept stalling and cutting out etc.

Found out a week later that I had corrupted the map doing what I did. The tuner then reloaded his final.skl back on to the ECU but would not disclose how I was to edit it in the future (didn't provide me with the file again)

After what I have been through I darent mess with it again.

This could be a real daft question but I would like to know if there is a way of me getting my map off the ECU without upsetting anything and also if I could change launch control and if so, how?

Thanks in advance
Matt

What is the serial number of the s300?

From Help, About, what is the version of software you are using?

You really should get the calibration from the tuner if you want to make changes. The tuner may not have set the software to save a copy of your calibration so that you can download it from the s300.

In the online menu you can download, but since the calibration is already corrupt, this will no longer help you.

The one on the ECU isn't corrupt my engine runs fine. It corrupted last time I downloaded, edited and reuploaded in same session. I'm guessing it will be okay if I download it, save it. Exit it. Close program then play about with it and upload again?

Someone once told me you can't, download, and upload in the same session but I'm not 100% sure if they are correct. I'll admit I've not tried it out of fear of corrupting my tune again

If you uploaded a corrupt calibration then that calibration on the ECU is corrupt and will no longer work.

Yes apparently I corrupted it by downloading from ECU, don't understand how a downloading SKL can corrupt via a download unless it was copy protected
