recurring p0340

Post by v4lu3s. »

I have a d16a6, 12:1 compression, crane stage 2 cam, bolt ons, plx wideband, all run by a hondata s300 in a p06 ecu.
I have had a recurring p0340 code appear, and have replaced the distributor 2 times, I completely rewired the engine harness with brand new honda wiring using a 1996 honda civic oem factory new wire harness direct from the distributor to the ecu, i have replaced the junkyard p06 with a refurbished one from HAMotorsports. I double checked all my timing, moved the adjustable cam gear back to 0, double checked ignition timing set to 16 degrees, and the code comes back.

Is there anything within the smanager software that can help me figure out what on earth is going on? just to recap this occurs on 3 distributors (new used and remanufactured), it has occurred on the original 315k mile engine harness, on a jumper harness for the distributor ONLY, and a new modified oem honda harness, and on 2 different ecus, the ONLY common factor in all of this is the engine itself and the S300 being used.

Have you tried the ECU on a known working vehicle?

What is the actual error code when datalogging in SManager?

Which ecu? The junkyard one or the one i just received from HAMotorsports?

I have not had the code occur when i have a laptop handy, it appears as P0340 via bluetooth with the Hondata android app, I am now carrying the laptop with me whenever i drive this car though. Prior to yesterday i had been clearing the code with the app.

This morning I pulled plugs, valve cover, and dist cap.and verified mechanical timing, with no visibally out of spec parts. I also used a small pick to press the female plugs to create a tighter fit should it be a bad connection.

Would a data log potentially show anything useful? Could my tune also be podsibly cause this?

This should have nothing to do with tuning. USe the laptop to datalog and check the code to be positive of what it is.

Will do, thanks for the reply.

I have not seen the code pop in two days which is aggravating since I really want to know why and avoid random fixes...
