Help with VTC issue

Post by Touge Master »

Hello,

Can you please help me with this?
Car: Hyundai Accent K20A2 (EDM Type-R) Swap circuit race car. Stock engine.
Kpro V4 board installed on PRA ECU, all bought from CPL Racing (uk)

Problem:
Sometimes, by no aparent reason, CAM and CAMCMD turns to 0 degrees so engine lose power and AFR ratio goes off as 0 degree table is not tuned.
Cycling power on/off on the fly solve the problem but can happen again anytime. Even if VTC solenoid could be starting to fail, why CAMCMD reads 0 degrees when it should show table values?

Also at idle looks like spark fail, engine hicups. Looking at datalog you can see the problem and how fuel mode switches from closed to open and then swithes to closed loop again until next hicup event. Datalog doesn't show fuel injector cut so it doesn't seem to be a electric supply cut.

I've atached two datalogs (internal).

Thanks in advance.

The ignition timing changes at idle are normal - see 'ignition controlled idle'.

A couple of minor things - gear ratios are incorrect. More important - the battery voltage is inconsistent, and the lambda is lean in places.

Check you wiring from the alternator to the battery, and check all grounds.

Sorry, maybe i haven't explained propertly. The problem at idle is not ignition timing related. There is a rpm surge and i know is normal for the ECU to try to bring the rpm up by advancing ignition timing, but the problem is the rpm surge/cut itself and the ECU behavior changing from closed loop to open loop by no reason. Any idea whats going on?

You are right, gear ratios are off, we are using hybrid EDM/JDM gears and shorter FGR.
I've also noticed the erratic battery voltage, we will take a look at wiring.
Lambda is lean because, as i stated above, 0 degrees VTC fuel table is not tuned as is never used under normal conditions. The problem is ECU is commanding 0 degrees everytime and it should command all range from 0 to 50 degreees. The problem disappear cyling power on the fly. This is very strange. I've tuned a lot of Kpro unit and never encountered this problem.
